About the Role
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will provide hands-on technical leadership across the design, implementation, and optimisation of Azure cloud environments. You will drive Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD automation, and DevSecOps practices while ensuring cloud platforms remain secure, compliant, scalable, and operationally efficient. Working closely with architects, security specialists, developers, and stakeholders, you will contribute to cloud migration activities, cloud platform engineering, security assurance, and knowledge transfer initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, build, and configuration of Microsoft Azure cloud platform services.
- Establish and maintain Azure landing zones, networking, identity, monitoring, governance, and security services.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code solutions using tools such as Bicep, Terraform, or similar technologies.
- Design and implement Azure platform services including Azure App Services, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and other cloud-native services.
- Support migration of enterprise applications into Azure PaaS environments.
- Design and implement Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Contribute to technical architecture, solution design, and implementation planning.
- Implement policy-driven data protection and governance controls.
- Design and maintain highly available, scalable, secure, and cost-effective Azure environments.
- Implement cloud security, identity, monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Government security frameworks and best-practice cloud security standards.
- Support security assurance, accreditation, compliance, and remediation activities.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, architectural artefacts, and operational procedures.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and knowledge transfer to internal teams.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve technical issues and delivery risks.
- Drive cloud optimisation initiatives focused on performance, reliability, security, and cost efficiency.
Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- 5+ years' experience in cloud engineering and Azure environments.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) technologies such as Terraform, Bicep, or similar.
- Proven experience implementing and managing CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices.
- Experience designing and delivering secure, compliant, and scalable cloud solutions.
- Knowledge of Australian Government security, risk, and assurance processes, including IRAP and PSPF.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and providing technical leadership.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience working in complex, highly regulated environments.
Highly Desirable
- Azure certifications such as Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect, or equivalent.
- Experience delivering enterprise cloud solutions within Federal Government environments.
- Knowledge of Windows Server, SQL Server, SharePoint, .NET Framework, Angular, IIS, and Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS).
- Experience optimising cloud consumption, performance, reliability, and operational costs.
