Job summary

Endeavour Group is seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer (Azure) to design, automate, and maintain robust Azure systems infrastructure. You will build scalable, secure patterns across Azure and GCP, drive automation and FinOps, and collaborate with Architecture and Cyber teams.

The role is hybrid (Sydney or Melbourne), 18-month fixed-term, with opportunities to lead IaC efforts, co-develop infrastructure patterns, and modernise legacy systems into code-driven cloud patterns.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Azure Cloud Engineer experience with Windows and Linux administration.
• Tertiary degree in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field.
• Expert-level IaC skills using Terraform, Azure DevOps, and GitHub.
• Proven track record delivering Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments.
• Deep hands-on expertise across core Azure services including compute, networking, storage and databases.
• Strong understanding of complex cloud network topologies (hub-and-spoke, hybrid).
• Incident troubleshooting and cloud cost optimisation abilities.

Responsibilities

• Co-develop infrastructure patterns with architecture teams and translate to reusable Terraform modules.
• Modernise legacy systems into code-driven cloud patterns.
• Create IaC foundations aligned with Azure Landing Zones and CAF.
• Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines using Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, and Shell scripting.
• Respond to high-priority production incidents and restore services quickly.
• Design secure, scalable cloud networking topologies with WAF and DNS.
• Embed FinOps practices and governance alongside the FinOps Manager.
• Apply Zero Trust and policy-as-code across deployments.
• Ensure automated backup, recovery, and performance monitoring.

About the Role

Endeavour Group's Cloud & Infrastructure Services team is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer (Azure)to design, automate, and maintain robust Azure systems infrastructure. In this role, you will engineer scalable solutions across Azure and GCP payloads, driving automation, security, performance, and reliability for business-critical applications while collaborating closely with Architecture, Cyber, and Digital teams.

• Hybrid ways of working - Sydney or Melbourne location
• Fixed Term Contract: 18 months
• Infrastructure Automation: Build and automate enterprise-scale Azure and GCP environments using cutting-edge Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
• Architectural Collaboration: Partner with cross-functional architecture and cyber security teams to build secure-by-design cloud landing zones
• FinOps and Security: Pioneer FinOps practices and Zero Trust principles while solving complex, high-priority production challenges

Here is a taster of what you can expect in this role:

• Pattern Co-Development: Work closely with architecture teams to co-develop infrastructure patterns and translate them into reusable Terraform IaC modules and blueprints.
• Legacy System Modernisation: Reverse engineer legacy solutions and modernise them into code-driven cloud patterns.
• Landing Zone Automation: Create IaC foundations and reusable Terraform modules aligned with Azure Landing Zones and the Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF).
• Pipeline Automation Scripting: Develop and maintain automated deployment pipelines using Terraform, Ansible, PowerShell, and Shell scripting.
• Production Incident Resolution: Respond urgently to high-criticality production incidents, driving creative troubleshooting to restore services quickly.
• Cloud Network Design: Partner with network teams to design secure, scalable cloud networking topologies, managing WAF, DNS, and load balancing.
• Cost Optimisation Governance: Embed FinOps practices into IaC patterns to optimise cloud spend, scale efficiently, and manage ongoing governance alongside the FinOps Manager.
• Zero Trust Security: Apply secure-by-design principles and policy-as-code to enforce cyber security and privacy standards across deployments.
• System Reliability Assurance: Implement automated backup, recovery, and performance monitoring solutions to ensure continuous service availability and disaster recovery compliance.

What do we need from you

Now let’s talk about you:

• Azure Engineering Background: Hold 5+ years of experience as an Azure Cloud Engineer alongside strong Windows and Linux administration skills.
• Relevant Tertiary Qualification: Possess a tertiary degree in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or a related field.
• IaC Tooling Mastery: Demonstrate expert-level Infrastructure as Code skills using Terraform, Azure DevOps, and GitHub.
• Cloud Architecture Delivery: Proven track record of designing, deploying, and managing Azure IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS environments.
• Core Azure Expertise: Maintain deep hands-on expertise across core Azure services including compute, networking, firewalls, App Services, Logic Apps, storage, and databases.
• Advanced Networking Knowledge: Show strong understanding of complex cloud network topologies (e.g., hub-and-spoke, hybrid) along with DNS, WAF, and load balancing.
• Incident Troubleshooting Skills: Skilled in executing cloud cost optimisation initiatives and resolving high-criticality production incidents under ambiguity.

Highly regarded (but not essential):

• Google Cloud Exposure: Hands-on exposure to GCP services such as NCC, PSC, BigQuery, Cloud SQL, VPC, and IAM.
• Azure Technical Certifications: Certified as an Azure Administrator, Solutions Architect, or DevOps Engineer.
• GCP Technical Certifications: Certified as a GCP Associate Cloud Engineer, Professional Cloud Architect, or Cloud Digital Leader.
