Job summary

BG&E, now part of the SYSTRA Group, invites applications for a Senior Civil Drafter to join our Brisbane or Melbourne team. You will work on major rail D&C projects within a national drafting group, taking ownership and mentoring others.

You will bring strong AutoCAD 2D skills, rail design experience, and a background in civil transport detailing. Interstate and NZ relocations are welcome as indicated.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Senior/Experienced Civil Drafter on rail or civil transport design and construct (D&C) projects.
• Ability to independently produce detailed drawings and coordinated outputs for complex, multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong AutoCAD 2D skills; 12d experience is highly regarded.
• Capable of checking drawings, identifying errors and clashes with engineers/designers.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed rail drawings and CAD models across concept, design development and detailed design stages.
• Translate designs, sketches and mark-ups into accurate drawings, details and coordinated drawing sets.
• Work with engineers and multidisciplinary drafters to incorporate changes and resolve clashes.
• Check drawings for accuracy, consistency and client/standards compliance.
• Manage drafting tasks, deadlines, drawing registers and revision records with progress updates.
• Support junior drafters with CAD techniques and detailing, coordinating with the Drafting Manager.

Context

The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Civil Drafter to join our Brisbane or Melbourne team in a role that offers real scope, ownership and influence. You’ll join a national drafting team working across complex D&C Rail infrastructure projects, with a strong pipeline of major rail opportunities. If you are someone who enjoys being hands-on in delivery but also wants to mentor, guide and be seen as a trusted senior in the team; we would love to speak with you.

Missions/Main Duties

Duties include:

• Prepare detailed rail drawings and CAD models across concept, design development and detailed design stages.
• Translate engineering designs, sketches and mark‑ups into accurate technical drawings, details and coordinated drawing sets.
• Work directly with engineers and multidisciplinary drafters to incorporate design changes and resolve clashes and drafting discrepancies.
• Check drawings and models for accuracy, consistency and compliance with client requirements and company standards.
• Manage assigned drafting tasks, deadlines, drawing registers and revision records, providing regular progress updates.
• Support junior drafters with CAD techniques and detailing, working closely with the Drafting Manager to resolve technical issues.

Profile/Skills

About You

This is a chance to join a well‑established national team of around40 and take on a role with real influence. You’ll be working on major rail and infrastructure opportunities, helping shape delivery, and filling a genuine need in the team at senior level. Key criteria:

• Strong hands‑on experience as a Senior or Experienced Civil Drafter on rail or civil transport design and construct (D&C) projects.
• Proven ability to independently produce detailed drawings and coordinated drafting outputs for complex, multidisciplinary projects.
• Strong AutoCAD 2D skills are essential; experience with 12d is highly regarded.
• Ability to check drawings, identify errors and clashes, and work closely with engineers and designers to resolve technical issues.
• Typically 8+ years of relevant experience, or demonstrated equivalent technical capability in civil drafting.
• A relevant qualification, such as a Certificate IV, Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering.
