Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety – Cairns QLD is seeking a Senior Child Safety Officer to provide high quality, culturally appropriate child protection services within a strengths-based framework.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team to support children, families and carers served by the Kin Placement Team.

• Recruit, assess and provide advice and support to foster and kinship carers, including complying with policies and procedures.
• Engage with carers and families to build safe networks and support the child’s safety and well-being.
• Provide casework support and advice to inform decisions about safety and protective needs of children.

In this role you will work within a multidisciplinary team and provide high quality, culturally appropriate, child protection services to children, families and carers serviced by the Kin Placement Team.

You will also support colleagues and management in the delivery of statutory child protection services within a strengths-based, safety-oriented framework for practice.

As a Senior Child Safety Officer, you will:

• Recruit, assess and provide advice, education and support to foster and kinship carers, including complying with legislative requirements, departmental policies and procedures.
• Effectively and positively engage with current and potential foster and kinship carers as required to support them in their roles as carers and their engagement with the department.
• Work collaboratively with key stakeholders, children and parents to support the establishment and strengthening of effective safety and support networks, including connection to extended family and community.
• Provide high quality, comprehensive casework support and advice to assist in informing decisions about the safety and protective needs of children where complex child protection concerns are present.
• Participate effectively as a team member in a multidisciplinary team to deliver well-planned family support services to vulnerable children and families.
• Actively contribute to a culture of continuous learning and training and professional development ,to ensure practice knowledge and skills are contemporary and evidence based.
• Prepare and maintain quality case records in accordance with departmental case management requirements .
