Job summary

Alice Springs, Northern Territory: Senior Child Protection Practitioner (P2) within the Department of Children and Families delivering integrated statutory and non-statutory welfare services to vulnerable children and families.

This role requires tertiary qualifications and membership eligibility with recognised professional bodies; you will assess issues, deliver case work, apply legislation, and work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, with relocation

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification with eligibility for membership of recognised professional bodies (e.g. Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Community Workers Association or Australian Psychological Society).
• Strong understanding of welfare services and ability to interpret complex legislation.
• Experience applying strength-based assessments and delivering appropriate interventions.

Responsibilities

• Assess individual, family and community issues and apply appropriate intervention methods.
• Deliver case work and case management services.
• Undertake statutory responsibilities and exercise delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act.
• Work in a culturally safe manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

As a frontline Senior Child Protection Practitioner (P2) you form part of a dedicated team of professionals delivering integrated statutory and non-statutory welfare services to vulnerable children and families. Depending upon your professional experience your duties may include assessing individual, family and community issues, applying appropriate methods of intervention, delivering case work and case management services, undertaking statutory responsibilities and exercising delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act.

To be successful for this role, you require a tertiary qualification which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers, Australian Community Workers Association or the Australian Psychological Society or equivalent tertiary qualifications. A strong understanding of the principles and functions of delivering statutory and non-statutory welfare services, conducting strength bases assessments, developing and delivering effective interventions, and a demonstrated capacity to interpret and apply complex legislation is essential.

In addition, you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, family and community structures, with the ability to communicate and work in a culturally safe manner.
