Job summary

Talent Insights Group is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to help ready the data platform for AI initiatives. Based in Sydney, you’ll bridge business needs with data engineers, focusing on semantic layer uplift and AI use-case prioritisation.

You’ll analyse the data warehouse, work with Looker/LookML, and collaborate with product leadership to define the roadmap, workshops, and documentation across Confluence and Jira.

Qualifications

• Experience as a BA on data platform, data warehouse or analytics projects.
• Hands-on SQL for data analysis and schema exploration.
• Exposure to semantic layers, metrics definitions or BI modelling (Looker/LookML helpful).
• Experience with GCP and BigQuery is valued.
• Strong ability to run workshops and manage stakeholders.
• Excellent documentation and user story writing.

Responsibilities

• Analyse current data warehouse, tables, views and data lineage to identify work needed.

Senior Business Analyst - Data Platform

The opportunity

Talent Insights are working with one of Australia’s biggest retail media businesses to find a Senior Business Analyst for a 6 month initial contract. This is a new stream focused on getting their data platform ready for AI.

They’re on GCP, BigQuery and Looker, and the warehouse has grown a lot over the years without much of a clean up. They’ve started pointing conversational AI tools at it, and the semantic layer needs an uplift to make that work. You’ll be the one helping bridge the business and the data engineers to get it there.

What you’ll be doing

• Analysing the current data warehouse, tables, views and data lineage to understand what’s there and what needs work


• Working with data engineers to shape the semantic layer uplift and make the platform easier to use


• Partnering with the business to capture AI and analytics use cases and prioritise towards them


• Running workshops, gathering requirements and writing clear user stories with acceptance criteria in Jira


• Keeping documentation tight in Confluence (data dictionaries, definitions, process flows)


• Working alongside a Product Manager on the stream to shape the roadmap

What you’ll bring

• Solid experience as a BA on data platform, data warehouse or analytics projects


• Hands‑on SQL and comfort digging into schemas, data models and lineage


• Exposure to semantic layers, metrics definitions or BI modelling (Looker/LookML a big plus)


• GCP and BigQuery experience highly regarded


• Strong workshop facilitation and stakeholder skills


• Great documentation and user story writing


• Interest in AI and how it’s changing the way people use data
