The City of Kingston is seeking a Senior Building Surveyor to provide senior technical and statutory expertise for building surveying services in line with the Building Act and related legislation. You will support the Deputy Municipal Building Surveyor, guide staff, and ensure compliant, timely decision‑making across the department.

You will oversee a dedicated team, contribute to service planning, and mentor staff while representing the Council in regulatory settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Building Surveying (or equivalent) and practicing Building Surveyor experience.
• Registration as a building practitioner in the Building Surveyor category with the Victorian Building Authority.
• Knowledge of Building Act, Building Regulations, Australian Standards and related legislation.
• Experience providing technical oversight, mentoring, or supervision within a statutory or regulatory environment.
• Ability to assess complex matters, apply regulatory requirements, and make sound, defensible regulatory decisions.
• Clear written and verbal communication for statutory documentation, technical advices, and public enquiries.

Responsabilités

• Coordinate and deliver statutory building surveying services in accordance with legislative, regulatory, and Council requirements
• Assess and issue building permits, conduct inspections, and issue occupancy permits and certificates
• Investigate unauthorised or non‑compliant building works and support notices and orders under the Building Act
• Provide specialist statutory and technical advice to Council staff, practitioners, applicants, and the public
• Provide day‑to‑day guidance, mentoring, and oversight to team members to ensure consistent legislation application
• Contribute to service planning, process improvement, and development of operational practices
• Participate in an after‑hours on‑call roster as required
• Represent Council in statutory, regulatory, and professional settings
