About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Bakery Retail Assistant / Barista to join our team with shifts available at both our Belmont and Thornlands locations on a part-time basis for 20 - 25 hours per week. This is a key position within our bakery that combines retail expertise with barista skills to deliver outstanding customer service and support our daily operations. As a Senior Bakery Retail Assistant / Barista, you will be instrumental in creating a positive shopping experience, managing the front-of-house operations, and ensuring our customers receive the finest service alongside our delicious baked goods and beverages.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly and provide knowledgeable, friendly service at all times
• Operate the point-of-sale system efficiently and accurately, processing transactions and managing cash handling
• Prepare and serve speciality coffee and other beverages to a consistent, high standard
• Assist customers with product selection, recommendations and advice on our bakery offerings
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the retail area, display cases and equipment
• Stock shelves and displays with fresh baked goods, ensuring visual appeal and product rotation
• Support junior team members, providing guidance and assistance as needed
• Monitor inventory levels and communicate with management regarding stock requirements
• Operate the espresso machine and other coffee equipment with proficiency and care
• Handle customer enquiries and resolve concerns professionally and courteously
• Comply with health, safety and food hygiene standards at all times

What we're looking for

• Demonstrated experience operating an espresso machine and preparing speciality coffee beverages
• Strong customer service skills with a genuine passion for delivering exceptional experiences
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
• Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and cash handling
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining attention to detail
• Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights
• Flexibility to work part-time hours, including one weekend day and morning shifts
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices, or willingness to obtain relevant certifications
• A reliable, punctual and professional attitude to work
• Experience training or supervising junior staff is highly desirable
• Barista certification or formal coffee training would be advantageous
