Job description

Help Shape the Future of Aviation Safety

At Babcock, we deliver critical services that keep communities safe and support complex aviation operations across Australia. We're seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Aviation Safety Advisor to play a pivotal role in strengthening our safety and compliance performance, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the highest standards of operational excellence.

If you're passionate about aviation safety, thrive in a dynamic environment, and enjoy influencing positive change through data-driven insights and strong stakeholder engagement, we'd love to hear from you.

About The Role

As the Senior Aviation Safety Advisor, you will be a key contributor to the ongoing effectiveness of Babcock's Aviation Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring the organisation maintains compliance with regulatory, contractual, and internal safety requirements.

Working closely with operational leaders, subject matter experts, and external stakeholders, you will coordinate and analyse critical safety and compliance information to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement across the business. You will oversee safety investigations, audits, inspections, corrective actions, and compliance activities, while providing expert guidance on risk management and aviation safety performance.

This is a highly influential role where you will lead the development and review of aviation safety documentation, monitor and report on key safety performance indicators, support regulatory and client engagements, and contribute to strategic safety initiatives. You will also play an important role in fostering a proactive safety culture through mentoring, training, coaching, and the sharing of best practice across the organisation.

Success in this role will see you acting as a trusted advisor, helping ensure Babcock continues to deliver safe, compliant, and effective aviation services in a complex and highly regulated environment.

About You

You are a safety professional with a strong aviation background and a genuine commitment to continuous improvement. You bring a well-developed understanding of Safety Management Systems, operational risk management, and compliance frameworks, along with the confidence to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.

You have experience analysing safety and compliance data, conducting audits and investigations, identifying systemic issues, and implementing effective corrective and preventative actions. Your ability to translate complex information into meaningful insights allows you to support informed decision-making and drive positive safety outcomes.

Highly organised and detail-oriented, you are comfortable managing multiple priorities while maintaining accurate records, documentation, and reporting requirements. You are an excellent communicator who can build strong working relationships, facilitate discussions, deliver training, and represent the organisation professionally with clients, regulators, and external partners.

To be successful, you will bring approximately six years' experience in a similar aviation safety, compliance, risk, quality, or operational assurance role, along with demonstrated experience conducting safety investigations, audits, and safety occurrence management activities. You will possess a sound understanding of Aviation and workplace health and safety legislation, operational risk management principles, and safety performance monitoring.

A tertiary qualification in Health, Safety, Risk, Quality, Aviation, or a related discipline will support your success, while qualifications in auditing and recognised investigation methodologies such as ICAM, TapRooT, or TopSet will be highly regarded. Professional memberships and certifications within the safety profession are also viewed favourably.

Most importantly, you are a collaborative and proactive professional who is passionate about helping create safer workplaces and ensuring aviation operations are conducted to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and performance.
