Job summary

Toyota Automated Logistics is seeking a Senior Automation Process Engineer for our MoRDC facility in Western Sydney. You will optimise the performance of one of Australia's most advanced automated distribution centres, leading improvements across shuttle technology, controls, and material flow systems.

The role requires degree-level engineering expertise and a track record of delivering performance gains through structured problem solving.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Experience in automated warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, or other highly automated environments.
• Strong understanding of automated material handling systems, controls, software interfaces, and system integration.
• Proven track record delivering sustainable performance improvements through structured problem solving.
• Proficiency with Excel and Power BI for performance reporting.

Responsibilities

• Build expertise in the Adapto system and its equipment, controls, software interactions, and performance.
• Analyse operational data to identify throughput, quality, reliability, and efficiency improvements.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives from problem identification through to implementation and sustainment.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to eliminate recurring losses and optimise site performance.
• Mentor site teams in problem-solving, data analysis, and continuous improvement practices.

Senior Automation Process Engineer

As a Senior Process Engineer based at our MoRDC facility in Western Sydney, you will play a pivotal role in optimising the performance of one of Australia's most technologically advanced automated distribution centres. Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and customer teams, you will identify and deliver high-impact improvement initiatives that enhance system reliability, throughput, efficiency, and operational stability.

As the site expert for the Adapto automation system, you will lead performance optimisation across cutting-edge shuttle technology, software controls, material flow systems, and site-wide automation infrastructure. This highly visible role offers the opportunity to influence site strategy, partner with global engineering specialists, and help drive the future performance of a world-class automated operation.

Your Impact

Build deep technical expertise in the Adapto system, including its equipment, controls, software interactions, and operational performance.

Analyse operational data and system performance to identify opportunities that improve throughput, quality, reliability, and efficiency.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives from problem identification through to implementation, verification, and sustainment.

Partner with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to eliminate recurring losses and optimise site performance.

Develop and maintain a pipeline of improvement opportunities aligned to operational priorities and long-term site objectives.

Provide technical leadership during complex investigations and support structured root cause analysis activities.

Coach and mentor site teams in problem-solving methodologies, data analysis, and continuous improvement practices.

Optimising automated material flow and system performance

Analysing automation controls and software interactions

Identifying system bottlenecks across ASRS, conveyors and controls platforms

Supporting site automation enhancements and upgrades

What Makes You a Great Fit?

Degree qualified in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

Experience within automated warehousing, manufacturing, logistics, industrial automation, or other highly automated operational environments.

Strong technical understanding of automated material handling systems, controls, software interfaces, and system integration.

Proven track record delivering sustainable performance improvements through structured problem solving and continuous improvement methodologies.

Strong analytical capability with experience using tools such as Excel, Power BI, and operational performance reporting platforms.

Ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional teams while maintaining focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical, operational, customer, and senior leadership stakeholders.

Highly Regarded

Experience with Adapto or similar automated storage and retrieval systems.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.

Experience facilitating root cause analysis, workshops, and operational improvement programs.

Exposure to Toyota Production System principles or operational excellence frameworks.
