Job summary

McCabes is seeking an experienced Senior Associate in Employment, Workplace Relations and Safety to join our Sydney team. You will advise HR and in-house clients, handle a diverse range of workplace matters, and contribute to our core practice through drafting and investigations.

The successful candidate will bring NSW practising credentials, a strong analytical skillset, and the ability to work collaboratively across practice groups in a busy, client-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws or equivalent with NSW practising certificate.
• Demonstrated experience across general employment and IR matters.
• Analytical, problem-solving and commercial mindset.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day employment law guidance to HR and in-house clients.
• Advise on and represent clients in various employment-related claims.
• Handle industrial relations issues including awards and EBAs.
• Advise on WHS and manage incidents; draft contracts and policies.
• Support corporate on people aspects of M&A; conduct workplace investigations.
• Deliver HR-related training to clients.

The Opportunity

Our employment team is looking for an experienced employment lawyer to join the team on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of workplace matters including:

• Providing day to day employment law guidance to HR and in-house legal clients
• Advising on and representing clients in a variety of employment related claims, including claims for unfair dismissal, adverse action, bullying, discrimination, sexual harassment, breach of contract and underpayment of wages
• Dealing with industrial relations issues, including awards and enterprise bargaining
• Advising on WHS and managing with incidents
• Reviewing and drafting of contracts, policies, and settlement deeds
• Supporting our corporate team on all people aspects of mergers and acquisitions
• Undertaking workplace investigations; and
• Delivering training to clients on HR related topics.

Skills and Experience

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent and a current New South Wales practising certificate
• Demonstrated experience across a range of general employment and IR matters
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling a practical and commercial approach to be taken
• Confidence to deal with clients and work collaboratively with other practice groups
• High degree of initiative, dedication and organisational ability with a strong client and commercial focus
• Ability to manage a busy workload and work to tight deadlines
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• A strong, plain language communication style
