JLegal in Sydney is seeking a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join an established defendant insurance practice. You will handle complex healthcare, professional indemnity and liability matters with ownership of your files and direct client relationships.

You will engage in a broad mix of contentious and advisory work, with opportunities for progression and development alongside experienced practitioners in a collaborative, growing team.

Qualifications

• Approximately 7+ years' post-admission experience.
• Experience in defendant insurance litigation and dispute resolution.
• Exposure to healthcare, medical negligence, professional indemnity, public liability or related liability matters.
• Ability to manage complex files with autonomy.
• Strong drafting, advisory and litigation skills.
• Commercial, practical approach to resolving disputes.
• Confidence managing client relationships and stakeholders.
• Interest in developing junior lawyers and the team.

Responsibilities

• Act in complex defendant insurance and liability claims.
• Manage healthcare and medical negligence matters for insurers and clients.
• Advise on professional indemnity claims across professions.
• Handle public liability and broader liability matters.
• Advise on coverage, policy interpretation and claims strategy.
• Manage litigation from instructions to resolution or court proceedings.
• Prepare advice, pleadings and litigation documents.
• Collaborate with counsel, experts and external stakeholders.
• Develop strategies for efficient, commercial claim resolution.
• Manage files with support from senior practitioners.
• Build relationships with insurer, corporate and institutional clients.
• Supervise and mentor junior lawyers where appropriate.
