Qualifications

• LLB and NSW practising certificate.
• At least 5 years' PAE in general insurance litigation.
• Experience in PI, D&O or management liability is highly regarded.
• Strong research, analytical and writing abilities.

Responsibilities

• Run own caseload of financial lines claims from start to finish.
• Advise insurer clients throughout the life of each matter.
• Appear for clients in negotiations, mediations and court.
• Supervise, train and mentor junior lawyers.
• Work closely with colleagues across the team to deliver efficient, joined-up results.

If you’re an experienced insurance litigator who enjoys complex claims and developing junior lawyers, this role offers both. Our client is a well-regarded Australian firm with a highly respected insurance practice, and it is looking for a Senior Associate to strengthen its financial lines group.

The Work

You will work on intellectually demanding, fact-heavy matters, with a focus on:

• Professional indemnity claims
• Directors’ and officers’ liability

Key Responsibilities

• Run your own caseload of financial lines claims from start to finish
• Advise insurer clients throughout the life of each matter
• Appear for clients in negotiations, mediations and court
• Supervise, train and mentor junior lawyers
• Work closely with colleagues across the team to deliver efficient, joined-up results

About You

• LLB (or equivalent) and a current NSW practising certificate
• At least 5 years’ PAE in general insurance litigation
• Experience in PI, D&O or management liability is highly regarded
• Thorough knowledge of tort law, civil procedure and the relevant legislation
• Excellent research and analytical skills, with a practical approach to problem-solving
• The ability to explain complex legal issues clearly, both in writing and in person
• Confidence running matters on your own, and you enjoy working with a team
• Strong negotiation skills and a commercial mindset
• Highly organised, able to juggle competing deadlines in a busy practice
