Lead Group is assisting a Canberra-based national law firm in recruiting an experienced Lawyer for a Senior Associate role in Insurance Litigation. The position involves work on complex defendant insurance matters, close collaboration with partners, and opportunities for ownership of matters within a supportive team.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years' post-admission experience in insurance litigation, strong drafting and negotiation skills, and a demonstrated ability to mentor junior lawyers.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Associate or Senior Associate to join the growing Insurance Litigation practice of a highly regarded national law firm in Canberra.

Working closely with an experienced Partner and a collaborative team of insurance specialists, you will gain exposure to sophisticated litigation matters involving major insurers, self-insured organisations and government clients.

This opportunity is ideal for an ambitious insurance lawyer looking to broaden their expertise, take greater ownership of matters and progress their career within a firm that genuinely invests in its people.

The Role

You will be involved in a diverse range of defendant insurance litigation matters, including:

• Public liability and personal injury claims
• Historical and institutional abuse litigation
• Compulsory Third Party (CTP) claims
• Commonwealth workers' compensation disputes
• Complex insurance litigation involving government and corporate clients
• Court and tribunal proceedings, including the ACT and NSW Courts, ACAT and Administrative Review Tribunal
• Managing files, developing litigation strategies and negotiating settlements
• Mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to the team's continued growth

The practice offers the opportunity to develop expertise across multiple insurance disciplines while also supporting lawyers who wish to specialise in a particular area.

About You

We are interested in hearing from lawyers who offer:

• 3+ years' post-admission experience, ideally within insurance litigation or personal injury
• Experience in defendant liability, CTP, public liability, historical abuse or workers' compensation matters
• Strong litigation, drafting, negotiation and file management skills
• Confidence managing matters with appropriate autonomy
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
• An interest in mentoring junior lawyers and progressing professionally

Lawyers from plaintiff personal injury practices or in-house legal teams are also encouraged to apply, particularly those interested in transitioning into defendant insurance litigation.
