Job summary

Logan Water is seeking a Senior Assessment Engineer to shape growth in Logan City by providing specialist engineering assessment services for water and wastewater infrastructure linked to new developments.

You will review development applications, assess designs, advise on infrastructure servicing, lead negotiations on infrastructure and tankering agreements, and work with developers, consultants, and government agencies to secure compliant outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) from Engineers Australia is required.
  • RPEQ registration is desirable.
  • Experience in water/wastewater planning, design, construction, operation or delivery.
  • Current C Class Driver Licence is required.
  • White Card accreditation (General Safety Induction) is required.
  • Ability to obtain Authorised Person status and Powers of Entry assessment.

Responsibilities

  • Assess water and wastewater components of development applications.
  • Review developer water/sewerage designs for Logan Water standards.
  • Provide technical advice on development assessment and design reviews.
  • Lead infrastructure and tankering agreement negotiations and docs.

About the role

As a Senior Assessment Engineer, you will play a key role in shaping the future development of Logan City by providing specialist engineering assessment services for water and wastewater infrastructure associated with new developments.

Working within the Development Services Program, you will assess development applications, review engineering designs, provide technical advice and recommend development conditions relating to water and sewerage infrastructure. You will also lead negotiations for infrastructure and tankering agreements, provide specialist advice on complex development matters, and work closely with developers, consultants, Council branches and government agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

This role requires extensive experience in water and wastewater planning, design and infrastructure delivery, enabling you to confidently assess developer-submitted designs, identify risks and opportunities, and ensure proposed infrastructure aligns with Logan Water standards and future network requirements.

The position offers the opportunity to combine technical expertise, stakeholder engagement and customer service while contributing to the continuous improvement of systems, processes and development assessment practices across Logan Water.

Position Responsibilities include:
  • Assessing water and wastewater components of development applications and Operational Works submissions.
  • Reviewing developer-delivered water and sewerage infrastructure designs to ensure compliance with Logan Water standards.
  • Providing technical advice on development assessment matters, engineering design reviews, construction standards and infrastructure servicing requirements.
  • Leading infrastructure and tankering agreement negotiations and document preparation.
  • Identifying risks, issues and opportunities associated with proposed developments and existing infrastructure networks.
  • Providing specialist advice relating to development disputes, planning matters and Planning & Environment Court appeals.
  • Building strong relationships with developers, consultants, government agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Contributing to the development of policies, standards, systems and continuous improvement initiatives within Development Services.
  • Supporting high-quality customer outcomes through responsive, professional and solution-focused service delivery.
Key indicators for success:
  • Significant experience in water and wastewater infrastructure planning, design, assessment and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of development assessment processes and their interaction with water and sewerage infrastructure.
  • Experience reviewing engineering designs and technical documentation for developer-delivered infrastructure.
  • Ability to provide practical, risk-based engineering advice and recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder management and negotiation skills with developers, consultants and regulatory authorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
  • Strong customer service capability and a commitment to delivering timely, responsive and professional outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience identifying opportunities for process improvement and driving positive business outcomes.
  • High levels of initiative, professional judgement and accountability.
Requirements:
  • Engineer Australia recognised Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) required
  • Registered Professional of Engineering Australia (RPEQ) desired
  • Experience in water/wastewater planning, design, construction, operation and/or project delivery.
  • Current C Class Driver Licence
  • Current General Safety Induction (White Card) accreditation
  • Ability to obtain Authorised Person status and pass the relevant Powers of Entry assessment.
