Job summary

Austral Archaeology is seeking a Senior Archaeologist to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a work-from-home position with archaeological sites across NSW.

You will mentor junior archaeologists, develop your own skills, and contribute to diverse Indigenous and historical heritage projects. Austral offers a collaborative environment with opportunities to lead field surveys and report preparation while working remotely/hybrid.

Qualifications

• Degree in archaeology, heritage management, or a related field (Honours preferred).
• 5+ years' experience in consulting archaeology or heritage management.
• Strong fieldwork skills in survey, excavation, or monitoring.
• Familiarity with NSW heritage legislation.
• Confident report writer with GIS and data management skills.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• Current driver’s licence and capacity to travel for fieldwork.
• Happy and capable to work remotely/hybrid.

Responsibilities

• Leading and supporting archaeological surveys, test excavations, and monitoring.
• Assisting with project logistics, planning, and coordination.
• Preparing and reviewing reporting for permits and planning (HAAs, SoHIs, and/or ACHAs).
• Working respectfully with Traditional Owners and stakeholder groups.
• Mentoring graduates and early-career team members.
• Maintaining high standards of field documentation and WHS compliance.

Austral Archaeology (Austral) is excited to offer an exciting opportunity for a Senior Archaeologist to join our team on a full-time basis. This is a work from home position with archaeological sites across NSW.

About You:
