Job summary

Jacobs in Melbourne seeks an experienced Project Archaeologist (Heritage Advisor) to deliver heritage-positive solutions across Australia. You will join a large heritage team working on Aboriginal, historical, maritime, and built heritage projects.

You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, mentor juniors, and contribute to CHMPs and heritage approvals from design through to delivery. This permanent role offers growth within a global network.

Qualifications

• Registration as a Victorian Registered Heritage Advisor or working towards Heritage Advisor status.
• Honours or postgraduate degree in archaeology, heritage management, or a related discipline.
• Approx. 3–6+ years of consulting experience focusing on Aboriginal heritage in Victoria.
• Knowledge of State and Commonwealth heritage legislation and guidelines.
• Experience contributing to Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs) and delivering high-quality heritage advice.
• Strong research, fieldwork, and site analysis skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead small to medium heritage projects (high-level advice and CHMPs), including fieldwork and reporting.
• Support senior team members on larger and more complex projects.
• Prepare heritage reports and assessments with guidance and review.
• Contribute to a positive team environment and knowledge-sharing.

Here’s what you'll need

To succeed inthisrole, you will bring:

• Registration as aVictorian Registered Heritage Advisor, with the qualifications and experiencerequiredto lead fieldworkin accordance withthe current Minister’s Guidelines; orworking towards Heritage Advisor status.
• AnHonours or postgraduate degreein archaeology, heritage management, or a related discipline.
• Approx. 3–6+ years’ consulting experience,with a focus on Aboriginal heritage in Victoria (additionalexperience outside Victoria and/or in historical heritage isadvantageous).
• Working knowledge ofState and Commonwealthheritage legislation, associated regulations, and guidelines (experience outside Victoria is beneficial).
• Experiencecontributing toCultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs)and deliveringhigh-qualityheritage advice.
• Solidresearch, fieldwork, and site analysisskills.
