The Senior Specialist Applications Engineer will support the L3Harris Communications Australia (L3HCA) Satellite Communications (SATCOM) capability under the Joint Project 2008 (JP2008) program supporting the Commonwealth of Australia. The role reports directly to the SATCOM Applications Engineering Manager, Global Field Services (GFS) Australia, and is responsible for the delivery of JP2008 program requirements.
The Senior Specialist Applications Engineer will provide training, planning, engineering, configuration, and sustainment support for operational and strategic SATCOM networked systems. The position supports the L3HCA Applications Engineering Manager, SATCOM, and the Program Manager in the sustainment, enhancement, and ongoing development of SATCOM capabilities throughout Australia.
The incumbent will assess and analyse the technical application of SATCOM products to meet evolving customer requirements and will design, develop, and refine solutions to ensure those requirements are effectively met. The role also supports the L3Harris Help Desk function, responding to customer requests and technical issues by providing timely, accurate, and effective solutions in accordance with contractual and customer requirements.
As a Field Service Representative (FSR), the Senior Specialist Applications Engineer will provide direct support to customers, operating either independently or as part of a broader support team. The role requires effective engagement with engineers, program managers, and customers and may involve leading team activities and technical initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience, with specialised knowledge of electronics and mechanical systems. Demonstrated ability to interpret and understand schematics, logic diagrams, wiring lists, technical drawings, and engineering documentation.
Minimum of 10 years' experience in military Satellite Communications (SATCOM), or a related engineering discipline, with demonstrated technical expertise in communications systems.
Proven field engineering experience with SATCOM equipment, including the installation, operation, troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of both fixed and mobile communication systems.
Current SECRET (NV1) Security Clearance.
The successful candidate will be an experienced communications engineer with a strong background in military communications systems. They will possess the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, with the ability to engage confidently with customers, stakeholders, and international personnel to support program delivery, sustainment activities, and business development initiatives.
This role requires a willingness to undertake extensive domestic and international travel to provide support to customers operating in both deployed and fixed-site environments.
