Job summary

Hireup is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to shape a highly accessible native mobile experience for our disability and elderly care platform. You will own features end-to-end from ideation to production, collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into elegant mobile solutions.

Qualifications

• 4+ years experience building and shipping complex Android apps with Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and Clean Architecture.
• Strong experience leading features end-to-end, from ideation through to rollout and post-launch support.
• Active use of AI engineering tools in daily coding; excited to keep leveraging AI in work.
• Resilient, action-oriented problem solver in purpose-led environments with collaboration.
• Understanding of A/B testing, feature flags, and experimentation to guide development.
• Experience with testing strategies (Unit, UI, Compose) and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with push notifications, deep links and in-app messages is advantageous.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do - Senior Android Engineer (Permanent, Full-Time)

Hybrid: Wynyard (Sydney) / Richmond (Melbourne), 2 office days per week!

As our Senior Android Engineer, you will be at the forefront of shaping a highly accessible, native mobile experience for Hireup, our purpose-driven platform connecting people with disability and elderly Australians with trusted support workers.

Sitting at the intersection of modern technical excellence and tangible customer outcomes, you will leverage an AI-first approach to radically improve both product features and engineering efficiency. You will be empowered to solve complex business problems directly. We foster a culture of innovation and safe-to-fail experimentation, empowering you to lead critical mobile features from ideation through to production.

• End-to-End Feature Leadership: Own the development and delivery of key features end-to-end (from ideation to post-launch monitoring), collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into intelligent, user-centric mobile experiences.
• AI-Powered Engineering: Integrate intelligent AI capabilities directly into our mobile app while actively utilising AI tools (such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot) in your daily workflows for planning, code generation, test generation, and design validation.
• Pioneer Modern Architecture: Design and build scalable, maintainable applications using a Kotlin-first, Jetpack Compose stack, Compose Navigation, and a strong commitment to MVVM and Clean Architecture principles.
• Ensure Technical Excellence: Champion high-quality code through robust unit, UI, Compose, and integration testing strategies. You will also drive performance optimisation, concurrency, and memory management.
• Accelerate Delivery: Automate development workflows using CI/CD pipelines, feature flags, and A/B testing to maintain a high pace of continuous delivery and rapid prototyping.

Your Background

• Android Expertise: 4+ years experience building and shipping complex, high-scale Android applications with deep proficiency in Kotlin, Jetpack Compose and Clean Architecture.
• Feature Ownership: Strong experience leading features end-to-end, taking full accountability from the initial ideation and architecture phases through to phased rollouts, and post-launch support.
• AI Fluency: Actively use AI engineering tools in your daily coding routines and are excited to continue to leverage AI tools in your work.
• Problem Solver: A resilient, action-oriented problem solver who thrives in purpose-led environments and brings a collaborative approach with internal cross-functional teams.
• Data-Driven: Strong understanding of A/B testing, feature flags, and experimentation to guide development.
• Testing & Automation: Proven experience with testing strategies (Unit, UI, Compose) and CI/CD pipelines.
• The \"Plus\" List: Experience with push notifications, deep links and in-app messages is highly advantageous.
