Your Role

This role suits people passionate about AI and about reinventing software engineering to deliver faster, higher-quality products. You will join a team exploring every day how to evolve our ways of working to be AI-First and what's possible with rapidly advancing LLMs and AI coding tools.

As a Senior AI-Native Engineer (.NET, Software Engineering) , you will deliver AI-powered products and solutions for our clients, focusing mainly on enterprises, owning the journey from discovery and scoping through pilot and production to adoption.

The work is varied: deploying an agentic AI workflow inside a major health insurer, standing up an AI-powered platform for a bank, or designing intelligent automation for a public sector agency. Our clients are Fortune 1000s across financial services, health, and the public sector, and the problems are real, ambiguous, and production-bound.

The foundation is broad full-stack, generalist engineering: you are equally proficient across product, architecture, coding, and infrastructure. We expect daily use of AI coding tools such as GHCP, Claude Code, Cursor or Codex to generate most of your requirements, code, and architecture diagrams, at least on side projects and ideally day-to-day.

You will think and build end to end like a product engineer, not just think about the code. These are not staff augmentation placements: you take a product from journey to pilot to production, own the outcome it delivers, and care as much about whether it gets adopted and creates value as whether the code is elegant.

This is a hands‑on engineering role within a consulting environment. You will embed directly with client engineering, product, and domain teams, translating ambiguous business problems into working systems that deliver measurable impact. You will be AI‑native by default, applying PALO IT’s Gen‑e2 methodology to drive quality, speed, and adoption across every engagement.

This role is based in Sydney. We operate a hybrid model with three days per week in our Sydney office or on client site, with the balance worked flexibly.

This is a client‑facing role at its core: you'll spend much of your time with clients, running discovery sessions, presenting to senior stakeholders, and owning the conversation as much as the code. If you enjoy owning a problem end to end and seeing your work land with the people who use it, and you're energised by ambiguity rather than a well-defined backlog, you'll thrive here.

Client Delivery

• Independently deliver defined workstreams within your engagement, from prototype through to production.
• Contribute to discovery and scoping sessions: ask strong clarifying questions and help frame the problem.
• Build full-stack, AI‑powered systems that deliver measurable client value.
• Identify risks and dependencies early and raise them before they become blockers.
• Proactively pick up unassigned work and drive it forward.

Consulting & Client Engagement

• Work directly with client teams and build trust with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute ideas on how AI can improve the client’s product, not just deliver what was asked.
• Communicate your thinking clearly: in the room, in writing, and in the code.
• Bring field feedback to the team to sharpen how we deliver.

AI‑Native & Gen‑e2 Practice (Core Expectation)

• Champion AI‑native ways of working, including AI‑first development, testing, and documentation.
• Apply prompt and context engineering, output validation, and critical review of AI-generated code.
• Stay current with emerging GenAI tools and bring practical ideas back to the team.

Who You Are

• Client‑facing aptitude and a consulting posture are essential. You are comfortable engaging directly with client stakeholders, presenting your thinking, and working in the open. This is a non‑negotiable requirement.
• 5+ years of hands‑on software development experience, ideally including cross‑functional or client‑facing work.
• Strong software engineering expertise in .NET
• Hands‑on experience supporting and modernising applications running on .NET
• Proven software architecture and solution design expertise, with the ability to assess, modernise, and transform existing enterprise applications
• Proven ability to independently deliver a defined workstream in a fast‑moving or ambiguous environment.
• You are open to learning new stacks. We work across different client environments, languages, frameworks, and cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP), and with AI as a learning tool, picking up something new is easier than ever. You don’t need to tick every technology box; curiosity goes a long way.
• Experience building with LLMs or generative models, professionally or through substantial personal projects.
• Solid system design capability and a strong understanding of programming patterns and principles.
• Clear communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated initiative and ownership: you drive outcomes rather than wait for instructions.

AI‑Native & Gen‑e2 Skills (Required)

• Hands‑on, daily use of AI tools across your engineering workflow.
• Working grasp of prompt and context engineering for engineering workflows.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools in day‑to‑day engineering work, not just theoretical exposure. You should be able to show how AI is part of your working method.
• Critical thinking to validate and verify AI‑generated code and solutions.

Good to Have

• Prior consulting or client‑facing delivery experience.
• Enterprise environment exposure.
• Experience with AI/ML services and frameworks.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
