Job summary

The Cabinet Office in Sydney is seeking a Senior Advisor, Cabinet to support Cabinet and Committee operations and improve processes across NSW Government agencies. You will coordinate proposals, meetings and training, ensuring timely, high-quality advice while handling highly confidential information.

As Senior Advisor, Cabinet, you will lead designated Cabinet operations, policy and project work, work with ministerial offices and senior executives, and help stakeholders navigate Cabinet

About the Role
This is a unique opportunity to work at the centre of executive government, supporting Cabinet and Committee operations that contribute to informed, timely and effective decision-making.

As Senior Advisor, Cabinet, you will lead assigned areas of Cabinet operations, policy and project work. You will coordinate Cabinet proposals and meetings, critically review submissions, provide advice on Cabinet practice and ensure sensitive information is managed accurately, securely and within demanding timeframes.

You will also lead projects to improve Cabinet processes and operations, support the effective use of eCabinet, and develop and deliver presentations and training for staff across government agencies. Working closely with ministerial offices, senior executives and Cabinet liaison staff, you will build trusted relationships and help stakeholders navigate Cabinet requirements with confidence.

This role offers a rare opportunity to gain exposure to complex government decision-making, work on high-profile initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement across Cabinet systems and processes.

You will join the Cabinet team within the Office of General Counsel at The Cabinet Office, working in a high-performing environment that values sound judgement, collaboration, integrity and high-quality advice.

About the Cabinet Team
The Cabinet team plays a critical role in supporting the effective operation of Cabinet and Cabinet Committees across the NSW Government.

The team provides expert advice on Cabinet processes and conventions, supports the secure management of Cabinet information, coordinates Cabinet business and drives continuous improvement through stakeholder engagement, training and digital systems such as eCabinet.

Working across ministerial offices, departments and agencies, the team helps ensure Cabinet decision-making is supported by high-quality processes, advice and governance.

We're Looking For
An experienced and adaptable professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities and deadlines can shift quickly. You'll bring strong judgement, exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to turn complex requirements into practical advice and solutions.

You will demonstrate:

  • Cabinet and government knowledge: A strong understanding of the Cabinet system of government, government functions and machinery of government, together with an appreciation of confidentiality, integrity and Cabinet conventions.
  • Project delivery: Experience planning, coordinating and delivering projects, managing competing priorities and maintaining momentum against agreed outcomes and deadlines.
  • Integrity and discretion: A demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct and the secure handling of highly confidential information.
  • Communication and influence: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex matters clearly, prepare high-quality advice and influence outcomes.
  • Analysis and judgement: The ability to critically assess proposals, identify emerging issues and risks, and develop practical, evidence-based solutions.
  • Training and facilitation: Experience developing and delivering presentations, guidance or training for varied audiences.
  • Digital capability: Confidence using technology to manage workflows, official records and sensitive information. Experience with eCabinet or a comparable workflow or records management system would be highly regarded.
  • Stakeholder engagement: The ability to build trusted relationships and work effectively with senior executives, ministerial offices, government agencies and other stakeholders.
