Job summary

MICM in Melbourne’s CBD is seeking a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. You will drive financial reporting, support the close process, and contribute to data-driven decision making across the business.

The role emphasizes technical accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and process improvement with a focus on automation and ERP systems. CA/CPA qualification is valued and experience in FMCG/retail environments is a plus.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting or Finance and professional qualification in progress or completed.
• Experience with monthly close, consolidations, and statutory reporting.
• Advanced Excel skills including large data analysis and modelling.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and substantiate Balance Sheet accounts and departmental revenue streams.
• Assist with statutory and management reporting (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow).
• Support Accounts Payable and provide technical accounting guidance.
• Contribute to ATO reporting (BAS, Tax Returns, FBT).
• Develop and enhance operational and financial reporting, focusing on automation.
• Support audits and liaise with external auditors.
• Monitor cost and revenue performance and drive process improvements.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and CapEx planning.
• Support accounting standards implementation (AASB 15 & AASB 16).
• Contribute to commercial finance initiatives (e.g., invoicing automation).

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance

About the Role

We’re looking for a Financial Accountant to join our Finance team. You’ll play a key role in financial reporting, process improvement, and supporting data-driven decision making across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and substantiate Balance Sheet accounts and departmental revenue streams
• Assist with statutory and management reporting (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cashflow)
• Support Accounts Payable and provide technical accounting guidance
• Contribute to ATO reporting (BAS, Tax Returns, FBT)
• Develop and enhance operational and financial reporting, with a focus on automation
• Support audits, including preparing documentation and liaising with external auditors
• Monitor cost and revenue performance and drive continuous process improvements
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and CapEx planning
• Support accounting standards implementation (AASB 15 & AASB 16)
• Contribute to commercial finance initiatives (e.g. invoicing automation, contract management)

About You

• Experience in finance/accounting roles with exposure to reporting and financial close
• Strong technical accounting and tax knowledge (GL ownership, statutory reporting)
• Advanced Excel skills with financial modelling capability
• Experience with Power Query, M, or DAX highly regarded
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Well‑organised with the ability to manage competing priorities
• Degree in Accounting or Finance
• CA/CPA qualified or working towards

Skills & Experience

• 3+ years' experience as a Financial Accountant, ideally within FMCG, cosmetics, retail, grocery, or distribution environments.
• CPA or CA qualified (or working towards completion) with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including large data analysis, PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and financial reporting.
• Strong month-end accounting experience, including journals, reconciliations, accruals, financial reporting, and audit support.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve complex accounting issues independently.
• Experience with ERP systems and reporting tools, coupled with excellent stakeholder management skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
