Job summary

JMT civil pty in Sydney is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to own month-end and year-end processes, deliver accurate reporting, and strengthen financial controls as the business grows. You will work closely with the CFO and leadership team and help shape how the finance function operates.

You will manage the month-end close, prepare management accounts, lead year-end, and support BAS/IAS/FBT/payroll tax.

Qualifications

• CA or CPA qualified (or nearing completion).
• 6+ years' experience in a similar role, in industry or chartered practice.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and Australian tax compliance (GST, FBT, payroll tax).
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with Xero / MYOB / NetSuite / SAP / other.
• Experience with audit preparation and statutory reporting.
• High attention to detail and ability to manage competing deadlines.
• Clear communicator who can explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Manage the month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly management accounts and commentary on performance against budget and forecast.
• Lead year-end preparation and act as a main point of contact for external advisors.
• Prepare and lodge BAS, IAS, FBT and payroll tax returns, and support the preparation of income tax returns with external advisers.
• Assist with the annual budget and rolling forecasts.
• Review and improve internal controls, processes and systems.
• Assist in overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll processes.
• Assist other team members as required.
• Provide ad hoc financial analysis to support business decisions.

We're a growing Civil construction and transport business located in Southwest Sydney. Our finance team is small, collaborative and closely involved in decisions across the business.

The role
