The role requires current rigging credentials, practical rigging and welding skills, and the ability to work across lifting plans and drawings. A safety-focused mindset and teamwork are essential for project success.

Qualifications

• Current and valid Rigging Ticket recognised in Australia.
• Proven experience as Rigger or Dogman in construction/engineering environments.
• Strong understanding of load calculations and rigging principles.
• Knowledge of Australian Standards for rigging and lifting operations.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and lifting plans.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate rigging equipment (slings, shackles, spreader bars) for safe lifts.
• Direct crane operators using hand signals for precise load placement.
• Inspect rigging gear for wear, damage or defects before use.
• Calculate loads and select rigging methods based on material and project needs.
• Assist in lifting and installing structural steel on site.
• Maintain records of lifting operations and rigging inspections.
• Coordinate with site supervisors and crane operators for complex lifts.
• Adhere to safety regulations and company safety protocols.
• Assist with site setup/breakdown as required.
• Site welding of structural steel (Welder only).
• Light fabrication (Welder only).

De Vries Engineering/De Vries Crane hire is seeking an experienced Rigger/Dogman and Welder to join our team on a casual basis. Based in the Geelong Region VIC 3220, this role is fundamental to the safe and efficient execution of our construction and engineering projects. As a Rigger/Dogman or Welder , you will be responsible for coordinating and managing the movement of heavy materials and equipment on site, ensuring all lifting operations are conducted safely and in compliance with regulatory standards. This position plays a critical role in maintaining project timelines and upholding our commitment to workplace safety excellence.

Key responsibilities

Set up and operate rigging equipment including slings, shackles, and spreader bars to safely lift and move heavy loads

Direct and guide crane and lifting equipment operators using hand signals and communication devices to ensure precise load placement

Inspect all rigging equipment and lifting devices before use to identify wear, damage or defects

Calculate load weights and determine appropriate rigging methods based on material type, size and project requirements

Assist in lifting and installing structural steel

Maintain accurate documentation of lifting operations and rigging inspections

Communicate effectively with site supervisors, crane operators and other team members to coordinate complex lifting operations

Comply with all relevant safety regulations, Australian Standards and company safety protocols

Assist with site setup and breakdown as required

What we're looking for

Current and valid Rigging Ticket or equivalent certification recognised in Australia

Proven experience working as a Rigger or Dogman in construction, engineering or industrial environments

Strong understanding of load calculations, centre of gravity and rigging principles

Demonstrated knowledge of Australian Standards relevant to rigging and lifting operations

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and lifting plans

Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team

Physical fitness and the ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions

High commitment to workplace health and safety

Reliability and professional attitude towards work
