Job Description

The Security Manager is responsible for the physical security of Zerra’s Dalby data centre campus, one of Zerra’s largest sites, located in a remote regional area.

Reporting to the Soft Services Manager, this is a hands‑on, site-based leadership role directing the on‑site contracted guard force, and ensuring the campus meets Zerra’s global security standards as well as the compliance expectations of a customer‑facing, mission‑critical facility.

Given the scale and remote location of the site, the role requires a high degree of autonomy in managing the 24/7 contracted security guard force, escalating to the Soft Services Manager as required.

Responsibilities
  • Lead day‑to‑day physical security operations across the Dalby campus, including access control, CCTV surveillance, perimeter security and alarm monitoring, ensuring 24/7 protection of people, customer data and critical infrastructure at scale.
  • Lead, roster and develop the on‑site security team, and manage and performance‑monitor the contracted security guard force and other security vendors, including training standards, post orders and SLA/KPI compliance.
  • Own security incident response and investigations on site, directing the contracted guard force's response and escalating to the Soft Services Manager in line with Zerra's global security policies.
  • Maintain compliance with customer security requirements and audit obligations (e.g. SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 9001) as well as Queensland/Australian security licensing and work health and safety legislation.
  • Provide security risk assessments and sign‑off for site access requests, contractor and visitor management, and construction or expansion works on the campus.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with local emergency services, law enforcement, regulators and the local community, representing Zerra in relevant forums given the campus’s regional setting.
  • Own and manage the guard force contracts, security technology maintenance and security upgrades, reporting spend and forecasts to the Soft Services Manager.
  • Embed a strong security and resilience culture across the campus, including delivering security awareness and emergency‑preparedness training to staff and contractors.
  • Support customer audits, due diligence requests and site tours by presenting the campus’s security and resilience posture to prospective and existing customers.
Experience, Skills and Competencies
  • 7+ years’ experience in physical security management, including leading teams, ideally within data centres, critical infrastructure or other large, high‑security industrial/commercial sites.
  • Proven experience managing a contracted security guard force is essential, together with experience leading in‑house security teams and other third‑party security vendors, at scale.
  • Strong working knowledge of access control, CCTV, intrusion detection and other electronic security systems (e.g. Genetec).
  • Demonstrated experience leading security incident response and investigations, with sound judgement operating autonomously and escalating appropriately to senior leadership.
  • Working knowledge of Australian security licensing requirements and WHS legislation; familiarity with international standards relevant to data centres (SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 22301) is highly regarded.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with a Director‑level manager, facility operations, customers, contractors, emergency services, regulators and the local community.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including incident reporting, board/executive‑level updates and documentation.
  • Ability and willingness to relocate to, and lead a security function from, a remote regional site, with flexibility for on‑call and after‑hours response.
  • High level of integrity, discretion and sound judgement when handling sensitive security and personnel matters.
