Job summary

GCTV Security is seeking a skilled Security and Telecommunications Technician to join our Nerang-based team on a full-time basis. This hands-on role involves installing, maintaining and troubleshooting CCTV, access control, alarm systems and telecom cabling at client sites across Queensland.

You will work with networking gear, interpret technical drawings and documentation, and ensure safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Security Technician or Telecommunications Technician.
• Solid knowledge of CCTV, alarm systems, access control and monitoring technologies.
• Experience with copper and fibre optic cabling and networking.
• Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
• Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel between client sites with a valid driver’s license.
• Relevant certifications in security, telecoms or electrical work are desirable.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to our industry.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure and commission CCTV, access control, alarm systems and monitoring equipment at client premises.
• Install and maintain telecommunications infrastructure including cabling and networking gear.
• Perform routine maintenance, repairs and upgrades on security and telecom systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot faults and implement corrective measures.
• Test installed systems to verify functionality and compliance with specs.
• Document all work with detailed records and technical documentation.
• Provide technical guidance to clients on operation and care of their systems.
• Coordinate with supervisors, engineers and other team members for timely delivery.
• Adhere to health, safety and security protocols on site.
• Stay current with industry developments and best practices.

Security and Telecommunications Technician

GCTV Security is seeking a skilled and dedicated Security and Telecommunications Technician to join our growing team on a full-time basis. Based in Nerang QLD 4211, this role represents a key position within our technical services division, supporting the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of security and telecommunications systems for our valued clients. As a Security and Telecommunications Technician, you will play an integral part in delivering reliable, high-quality technical solutions that protect and connect our customers' operations. This is a hands-on role that combines practical expertise with customer service excellence.

Key responsibilities

Installing, configuring and commissioning security systems including CCTV cameras, access control systems, alarm systems and monitoring equipment at client premises

Installing and maintaining telecommunications infrastructure including cabling, networking equipment and communication devices

Performing routine maintenance, repairs and upgrades on security and telecommunications systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability

Diagnosing and troubleshooting technical faults and system failures, implementing corrective measures in a timely manner

Testing newly installed systems to verify functionality and compliance with specifications and industry standards

Documenting all installation, maintenance and repair work accurately, maintaining detailed records and technical documentation

Providing technical support and guidance to clients on the operation and care of their security and telecommunications systems

Liaising with supervisors, engineers and other team members to ensure seamless project delivery and coordination

Adhering to all health, safety and security protocols whilst working on client sites

Staying current with industry developments, emerging technologies and best practices in security and telecommunications

What we're looking for

Proven experience as a Security Technician, Telecommunications Technician or similar technical role within the trades and services industry

Solid knowledge of security systems including CCTV, alarm systems, access control and monitoring technologies

Solid knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure, cabling systems (copper and fibre optic), networking principles and communication equipment

Competency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics and system specifications

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently

Excellent attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship

Sound understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to working at heights, electrical safety and hazardous materials

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills

Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation to travel between client sites

Relevant qualifications or certifications in security systems, telecommunications or electrical work are highly desirable

Physical fitness and capability to perform tasks requiring climbing, lifting and working in confined spaces
