Job summary

Parks Victoria is seeking a Seasonal Ranger based in Mansfield to help manage a range of parks and reserves on Taungurung Country, spanning the Alpine National Park area between Mansfield and the Wonnongatta. You will join a small team and support on-ground estate management in line with policies and priorities.

The role involves partnerships with Traditional Owners, pest plant and animal control, asset construction and maintenance, legal compliance activities, and delivering education programs

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in land management or conservation, or equivalent experience.
• Experience maintaining campground facilities and assets, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
• Ability to self-manage and work autonomously.
• Strong customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Park management experience is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist in on-ground management of Parks Victoria's estate across Mansfield area.
• Deliver conservation programs including pest plants & animals and threatened species.
• Maintain visitor infrastructure and assets such as roads, tracks and campground areas.
• Engage with Traditional Owners, partners, volunteers and operators.
• Support education programs and community engagement.

About the role

As part of our small team based out of Mansfield, you will help to manage a range of parks and reserves on Taungurung Country across the Howqua and King river catchments, with a focus on potions of the Alpine National Park between Mansfield and the Wonnongatta.

Our Seasonal Rangers are key to Parks Victoria providing exceptional experiences for visitors to Victoria's parks and reserves. As a Seasonal Ranger, you are responsible for the on-ground management of Parks Victoria's estate, consistent with organisational priorities, policies and procedures, ensuring that people can enjoy the outdoors and protecting the things that make our parks and reserves so special. You will work as part of a team in delivering a variety of projects and services including (but not limited to): working with Traditional Owners in joint management and other partnership arrangements; conservation program delivery (such as pest plants and animals, threatened species); visitor infrastructure and asset construction and maintenance (such as roads, walking tracks, day visitor areas and campgrounds); compliance and enforcement activities; the delivery of education programs; and engagement with the community, licensed tour operators and other commercial operations, and volunteers.

We're looking for someone with:

• Tertiary qualifications in land management or conservation, or equivalent experience.
• Practical skills and experience in the maintenance and management of campground facilities and assets, ensuring they're open, safe and clean for our visitors.
• Experience in self-management and the ability to work autonomously.
• Experience in customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in park management would be beneficial but not essential
