Job description

Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies. PQ offers laboratory services in the disciplines of anatomical pathology, chemical pathology, haematology, immunology, microbiology and genomics. PQ also provides expert analysis, scientific testing and advice to maintain and improve our public and environmental health, and to support the coronial system in Queensland.About the role:As a Scientist, you will conduct testing in the disciplines of Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Transfusion Medicine, Molecular and Microbiology of the Toowoomba Laboratory ensuring the provision of a high-quality, cost-effective pathology service to clients as part of the Pathology Queensland Toowoomba Laboratory Group.Your key responsibilities include:Routine and complex testing of samples and related duties, following well established accredited protocols and standards within all areas of the Toowoomba Laboratory.With demonstrated experience, or as experience builds, apply increasingly independent scientific judgement to more complex problems and decision making, under the scientific supervision or professional guidance of more senior staff.Deliver quality results to clients ensuring all aspects of a NATA accredited laboratory are adhered to.Actively participate in the team in a professional manner, treating clients and co-workers with respect and courtesy.Role fit:You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:This is a modern laboratory with a positive culture and a high performing team, so qualities of resilience, well-developed communication skills and ability to contribute positively to a team environment are essential.Demonstrated knowledge, expertise, and skills within a multi-skilled laboratory.Demonstrated ability to participate in a multi-skilled laboratory team under the supervision of more senior practitioners.Demonstrated ability to apply established principles to routine and complex scientific duties in a multiskilled laboratory with the provision of results and advice in a client focussed manner.Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision.Why work for us:Career training and developmentCompetitive salariesGenerous leave entitlementsEmployee wellbeing programsOur commitment to equity, diversity and inclusionAt Queensland Health, our work environment is inclusive and supportive, and we value our employees.
