Job summary

Westmead Fertility Centre is seeking a Scientific Support Officer to join the Scientific Team at the Westmead Hospital Campus. You will be responsible for the safe transport of oocytes from theatre to the laboratory, perform quality control checks, and coordinate cryopreserved samples with IVF clinics.

The role also involves data entry, stock management, and some direct patient interactions. This full-time position supports a state-of-the-art facility in a values-driven, multidisciplinary team

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biosciences is required.
• Effective interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism.
• Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to detail.
• Proficient computer literacy (MS Office and databases).
• Ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
• Laboratory experience is preferred.

About the role

You will work as a member of the Scientific Team, headed by the Scientific Director, and reporting to the Laboratory Manager. As a Scientific Support Officer, you will be responsible for the safe transport of oocytes from the hospital theatre to the laboratory, quality control checks of the laboratory environment, liaising with other IVF clinics to arrange cryopreserved oocyte, sperm, and/or embryo transport, data entry, and stock management. Patient focus is central to all roles at WFC, and your role will include some direct patient interactions that require a confident, caring, and empathetic approach.

The position is only offered on a full-time basis (38 hours per week), with the days of work being Monday to Friday.

About you

To succeed, you will have:

Bachelors degree in Biosciences

Effective interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written

Ability to deal sensitively and efficiently with members of the public, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times

High level organisational and time management skills, with proven attention to accuracy and detail

Proficient computer literacy (MS Office suite and Databases)

Demonstrated ability to work successfully as part of a team

Preferably some laboratory experience

Demonstrated self-motivation and the ability to show initiative and be proactive in problem solving

To be able to work in our cleanrooms we require any applicant to be smoke free
