Job summary

Laverty Pathology, part of Healius, seeks an experienced Scientific Officer to join their North Ryde laboratory. You will perform manual and automated diagnostic testing and manage the process from reception to reporting, while supporting stock control and QA activities in a busy pathology environment.

The role requires a science degree and proven experience in QC/QA, with a strong commitment to accuracy, safety and professional development within a leading healthcare network.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor level degree in science or medical laboratory science.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with QC/QA and troubleshoot processes.
  • Experience in quality/service improvement per accreditation standards.
  • Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing.
  • Carry out procedures from specimen reception to results reporting.
  • Assist with stock control and inventory management.
  • Maintain records and ensure compliance with protocols.
  • Maintain equipment per protocols and safety standards.
  • Keep current scientific knowledge up to date.
  • Participate in QA and quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to development of new assays as required.
  • Train staff and liaise with internal/external stakeholders.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Scientific Officer who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate and engaged team who will be responsible for:



  • Performing manual and automated diagnostic testing

  • Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis

  • Assisting with Stock Control

  • Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols

  • Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols

  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge

  • Participating in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities

  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required

  • Participating in training staff

  • Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary

  • Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes


About You

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:



  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent

  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within the respective discipline

  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting

  • Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification

  • Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision

  • An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence

  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures

  • A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member

  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills

  • The ability to manage and thrive in a busy environment

  • Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements including Hepatitis B
