About The Role

As a Laboratory Assistant, you will be responsible for the accurate and efficient processing of pathology specimens within specimen reception, ensuring they are correctly registered, handled and dispatched for testing. This role is critical in maintaining turnaround times and supporting the delivery of reliable diagnostic results.

Schedule: Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm – there are 4 shifts structured – 8am, 11am & 2 shifts at 1pm
Key responsibilities
  • Receive, check and process specimens with a high level of accuracy
  • Complete data entry and registration of specimens into laboratory systems
  • Prepare and dispatch specimens to core laboratories within required timeframes
  • Manage enquiries via phone and shared mailboxes, escalating where required
  • Coordinate urgent specimen handling and courier collections
  • Maintain laboratory records, storage and filing processes
  • Participate in routine quality activities and follow laboratory procedures
  • Ensure compliance with WHS policies and maintain a safe working environment
About You

Our ideal candidate may have previous exposure to a laboratory or healthcare environment, or hold a qualification or certification in pathology or laboratory skills. We also welcome applications from candidates who bring experience from roles requiring a high level of accuracy, strong time management and the ability to follow structured processes and procedures.

Above all, you communicate effectively, work well as part of a team and are comfortable working in busy environments.

Qualifications And Experience
  • Previous experience working in a laboratory is desirable but not essential
  • A certificate in pathology and/or a certificate or diploma in laboratory skills/techniques (or equivalent) is desirable but not essential
  • A background in healthcare, data entry or roles requiring high levels of accuracy and attention to detail is highly regarded
Requirements

Ability to provide evidence of immunisation requirements, including Hepatitis B
