Job summary

Laverty Pathology, a Healius business, is seeking a Scientific Officer for a part-time position in NSW. The role involves manual and automated diagnostic testing from specimen reception to result reporting, with on-call shifts and roster participation.

Requirements include a Bachelor of Science (or equivalent) and AIMS certification if applicable, plus strong quality and teamwork skills. Location: 9-25 Captain Cook Drive, Barrack Heights NSW 2528.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent.
  • AIMS certification as a Medical Scientist if your degree was acquired overseas.
  • Demonstrated experience in Haematology/ Biochemistry is desirable.
  • Ability to identify and implement quality improvements and comply with ISO/NATA accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing from specimen reception to results.
  • Assist with stock control and maintain records per protocol.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in on-call roster and staff training.
  • Liaise with referring practitioners regarding test results.

About the role

We are seeking Scientific Officer w ho is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who will be responsible for:

  • Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
  • Performing all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis
  • Assisting with Stock Control
  • Compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
  • Maintaining all equipment and operating equipment in line with protocols
  • Maintaining current scientific knowledge
  • Participation in both routine and audit related Quality Assurance activities
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
  • Participating in stafftraining
  • Liaising with internal and/ or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
  • Compliance and adherence with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes.
  • Participate in a rotating on call roster
About you

To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
  • AIMS certification as a Medical Scientist if your degree was acquired overseas
  • Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills within Haematology and Biochemistry disciplines is desirable
  • Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
  • Ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
  • Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision
  • An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
  • A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
  • A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
  • Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
