Job summary

St Patrick's College Townsville is seeking an organised, enthusiastic Science Laboratory Technician to join our Catholic secondary school community. You will support the Science Faculty with safe, well-resourced laboratories and hands-on practical learning experiences for students.

You will prepare, maintain and stock laboratory resources, assist with risk assessments and safety documentation, and collaborate with teaching staff to deliver engaging science activities while upholding child

Qualifications

• Experience in a laboratory environment, preferably within an educational setting.
• Strong organisational and time management skills with attention to detail.
• Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific materials and safety procedures.
• Understanding WHS requirements and risk management practices.
• Ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, suppliers and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team.
• Commitment to student learning, child safeguarding and Catholic education values.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, set up and dismantle equipment and materials for practical science lessons and experiments.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, resources and chemical inventories to support curriculum delivery.
• Manage stock control, procurement and supplier relationships.
• Conduct and maintain risk assessments, safety documentation and chemical registers.
• Ensure compliance with Workplace Health and Safety requirements and laboratory safety standards.
• Support teaching staff with experiment preparation, trials and demonstrations.
• Safely store, handle and dispose of chemicals, hazardous substances and biological materials.
• Maintain laboratory facilities to ensure they remain safe, organised and fit for purpose.
