Job summary

Alexandra Hills State High School is seeking a detail‑oriented Science Technician to support practical science lessons and STEM initiatives. You will prepare materials, maintain safety standards, manage chemicals and equipment, and assist teachers with demonstrations in a dynamic school environment.

Applicants should hold a relevant diploma, be eligible for a Blue Card, and demonstrate strong organisation, communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

• Held a diploma qualification relevant to the role (or equivalent acceptable to the Department of Education).
• Held, or be eligible to obtain, a current Blue Card.
• Strong understanding of laboratory safety procedures and chemical handling.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
• Proficient computing skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Previous experience as a Science Technician in a school is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and set up equipment, chemicals and materials for practical science lessons.
• Prepare chemical solutions and maintain laboratory resources per procedures.
• Maintain laboratories, preparation rooms and storage areas in a clean, safe condition.
• Manage chemical storage, SDS, waste disposal and laboratory safety requirements.
• Maintain inventory records, chemical registers and dangerous goods registers.
• Order equipment, chemicals and consumables; obtain quotations and receive deliveries.
• Assist with annual stocktakes and maintain science assets.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Support teachers with practical activities and demonstrations.
• Assist with STEM activities and other science initiatives.
• Ensure all laboratory procedures comply with WHS legislation and Department of Education policies.
• Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal or Business Manager.
