Job summary

Melonba Public School in the north-west growth corridor of Sydney is seeking a School Learning Support Officer to assist students with identified learning needs under the direction of a teacher. The role includes supporting student welfare, health and wellbeing activities and may involve duties in preschool, vision/hearing support and bilingual settings.

Training provided by the Department of Education will be undertaken as needed.

Qualifications

About the Role

School Learning Support Officers provides support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings: pre-school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual. Student Learning Support Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers that are required to be performed.

Essential Requirements

• Working with Children Check Clearance
• Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
• Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
• Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).

About the School

Melonba Public School is a new school located in the South Creek Network with over 1050 students. The school is located in Melonba in the north-west growth corridor of Sydney which has a high proportion of EAL/D students. The school is situated in a diverse and multicultural community. Student enrolments are expected to increase significantly in the first five years of operation as the surrounding area undergoes extensive development. Melonba Public School will include three support classes for students with disabilities and additional learning needs from 2026 and a preschool to open in 2027. The school is located at Swallowtail Street, Melonba, alongside Melonba High School. The first MC support class opened in 2026 and the second MC class will open in 2027.
