Baulkham Hills High School is seeking a School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) within the NSW Department of Education. The role supports students with diverse learning needs, including intellectual disabilities, autism and vision/hearing impairments, under the direction of teachers to help students participate and progress.

Successful candidates will join a collaborative team and contribute to welfare activities, with training provided for relevant supports and compliance requirements.

Formación

• Working with Children Check clearance is required.
• Completion of mandatory Department of Education training is required, with willingness to undertake first aid training.
• Administration of medications—training to be provided based on student needs.
• Health support training may be provided based on student needs.

Responsabilidades

• Assisting the classroom teacher in teaching and learning environments.
• Implementing individual education programs and individual transition programs.
• Providing individualised support to students with additional learning needs, including those with challenging behaviours or diagnosed disabilities.
• Organising and preparing resources to support teaching and learning.
• Participating in student welfare and wellbeing activities as required.
• Working across mainstream and support classes as needed.
• Undertaking other related duties as determined by the principal or supervisor.
• Demonstrating ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
• Awareness of the needs of students with these disabilities.
• Possessing effective communication skills.

About the Role School Learning Support Officers provides support for students with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for students in the following streams or settings: pre-school, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual. Student Learning Support Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers that are required to be performed.

Essential Requirements

• Working with Children Check Clearance
• Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
• Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
• Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).

School Learning Support Officers (SLSO) at Baulkham Hills High School (BHHS) support students with diverse learning needs, including those with intellectual disabilities, autism and vision impairments, to access and engage with the curriculum. Working under the direction and supervision of teachers, SLSO’s assist in implementing personalised strategies that support participation and academic progress. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative and experienced team.

• assisting the classroom teacher in the teaching and learning environment, including the implementation of individual education programs and individual transition programs;
• providing individualised support to students with additional learning needs, including supporting students with challenging behaviours and or diagnosed disabilities;
• assisting the classroom teacher in organising and preparing resources to support teaching and learning;
• participating in student welfare and wellbeing activities as required;
• the flexibility to work across mainstream and support classes, and
• undertaking other related duties as determined by the principal or supervisor.
