Job summary

Ballarat Specialist School is seeking a Paediatric Occupational Therapist to join our multidisciplinary Allied Health Team. The role focuses on functional capacity, curriculum access, and assistive technology to support students aged 3 to 18 with intellectual disabilities.

You will assess, plan and implement interventions within classrooms, collaborating with teachers, ES staff and families to build independence and participation in learning activities.

Qualifications

• Paediatric Occupational Therapy for children with disability and complex needs.
• Ability to conduct functional capacity assessment and task analysis for curriculum access.
• Experience with assistive technology and equipment prescription.
• Collaborate with teachers, Education Support staff, therapists and families.
• Independent caseload management and program development.

Responsibilities

• Conduct functional and occupational assessments to understand barriers to participation.
• Assess how cognitive, sensory, fine motor, and executive functioning affect curriculum access.
• Work within classrooms to analyze tasks and identify barriers to participation.
• Modify activities and learning tasks to improve accessibility.
• Prescribe and trial assistive technology and equipment.
• Support positioning, seating and functional participation within learning environments.
• Develop individualized programs to build students' functional capacity and independence.
• Provide staff training, coaching and modelling around equipment and strategies.
• Monitor outcomes and progressively modify supports as students gain independence.
• Collaborate with Physiotherapists, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Exercise Physiologists, Allied Health Assistants, Teachers and families.
