One product line has dropped sharply across a banner group. Stock on hand looks normal, and the broker hasn't raised an issue. Before the weekly broker meeting, you want to know what happened and what needs to happen next.
That is the kind of question this role exists to answer.
You will be the day-to-day link between an established FMCG supplier, its external sales broker and retail partners across Australia and New Zealand.
The work covers broker coordination, POS and sell-out analysis, forecasting, trade promotion administration and retail account support. It sits between sales coordination and full account ownership: not field sales, not order entry, and a clear step towards National Account Management or a broader Trade Marketing career.
Our client is the Australian and New Zealand operation of an established international consumer goods business. The Melbourne office is small and multicultural, with regular contact across local and overseas teams.
Broker and retail coordination
Act as the broker's day-to-day contact and follow up on order, delivery, pricing and out-of-stock issues
Run the weekly broker meeting, from agenda and minutes through to completed actions
Prepare trade notices, policy updates and sales communications
Judge when an issue can be resolved directly and when it needs to be escalated
Sales data and forecasting
Maintain POS, sell-in, sell-out and stock-on-hand data
Prepare monthly sales reports and compare actual performance against forecast
Identify unusual sales movements, out-of-stock risks and excess inventory
Build trend analysis and account-level performance reports
Trade promotions
Maintain promotional calendars and collect in-store evidence that agreed activity was executed
Reconcile promotional invoices, rebates and volume discounts against trading terms
Track promotional ROI and process trade claims
Investigate anything that does not reconcile before it is approved or paid
Account and new product support
Track product distribution and identify gaps
Support new product listings and launches, including product data on NPC and GS1
Prepare account proposals and presentations with the Sales & Marketing Manager
Attend broker and retail meetings, and report on store and competitor checks
The role also covers coordinating point-of-sale materials and samples, keeping sales databases accurate and liaising with overseas colleagues.
You may already be the person who works out why a promotion did not scan correctly, catches a rebate calculated against the wrong terms, or notices that stock levels do not match the sales story. When a sales report, a promotional claim, a delivery issue and an account presentation land on the same day, you know which one needs attention first.
Accuracy matters here. So does raising issues early and following through without straining relationships.
Hands‑on experience in FMCG sales coordination, account support, trade marketing or a comparable retail‑facing role, working with brokers, wholesalers, distributors, banner groups or major retailers
Experience with POS or scan data, sell‑in, sell‑out and stock‑on‑hand reporting
A practical understanding of retail promotions, trading terms and claims
Intermediate to advanced Excel (including Pivot Tables), competent PowerPoint and Word, and the ability to explain what the numbers mean commercially
Strong written and spoken English, confidence dealing with external partners, and unrestricted working rights in Australia without requiring employer sponsorship
Experience in pharmacy or other regulated retail channels
Knowledge of rebates, price structures, promotional ROI or sales forecasting
Experience supporting new product listings and retail launches, including NPC or GS1 portals
Experience with ERP or workflow approval systems
Experience working with an overseas head office or regional team
Step beyond coordination. See how forecasts are challenged, how promotional investment is checked and how account decisions are supported.
See the supplier's side. If you have worked for a broker, distributor or wholesaler, here you see how the commercial plan is built, not only how it is executed.
Build towards account ownership. Broker coordination, forecasting, promotional execution, claims and new listings are the working foundation of National Account Management and Trade Marketing.
Be seen. In a small local team, you work close to decision-makers, and you see the result when your analysis or follow-up puts an activity back on track.
Learn with support. You bring the commercial experience, and the team helps you learn its portfolio, systems and internal processes.
Regular time in the office is expected, particularly while you learn the company's portfolio, systems and ways of working and build relationships with the local team. Hybrid arrangements allow up to two days a week working from home, though being on site as much as possible is preferred until you are comfortable in the role. Occasional travel may be required for broker meetings, retail visits or interstate and overseas offices.
The client's identity and product portfolio are confidential at this stage. Career Meister will share full details in an initial confidential conversation.
The role offers a market-aligned base salary plus superannuation, reflecting relevant experience and commercial capability. We will discuss remuneration expectations with suitable candidates early in the process, before any client interview.
