• Permanent full-time position - 35 hours per week
• 19-day month with one RDO every four weeks, with additional flexible working arrangement opportunities
• Grade I - $3,098.20-$3,487.60 plus superannuation gross per fortnight plus superannuation which equates to an annual salary of $80,553.20 - $90,677.60 gross plus superannuation (dependent on skills, qualifications and experience).

Mid-Western Regional Council is seeking an experienced and solutions-focused Safety & Wellbeing Advisor to join our Safety & Wellbeing team and help drive a positive workplace health and safety culture across Council.

Reporting to the Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator, you will provide practical advice, support and coaching to managers, supervisors and workers across our diverse organisation, while helping to maintain and continuously improve Council's WHS Management System.

This is a hands-on role combining WHS systems, incident investigation, risk management, training, injury management, compliance, reporting and employee wellbeing.

You’ll work across a broad range of WHS and wellbeing priorities, balancing day-to-day safety matters with longer-term initiatives that strengthen Council's safety culture and systems.

No two days will look the same in this role. You might start the morning reviewing an incident or hazard report, analysing WHS data or following up on corrective actions. From there, you could be out on site supporting a manager with a risk assessment, investigating an incident or providing practical advice to a team on managing a workplace hazard.

Your afternoon may involve delivering or coordinating WHS training, working with Health and Safety Representatives, reviewing a policy or procedure, preparing a report for the Executive Team or supporting an injury management matter.

You’ll work closely with managers, supervisors, workers and other stakeholders to identify risks, find practical solutions and support people to understand and meet their WHS responsibilities.

About This Role

• Maintain and continuously improve Council's WHS Management System, ensuring it supports legislative compliance, best practice and positive safety outcomes;
• Provide practical WHS advice, coaching and support to managers, supervisors and workers, helping build capability and confidence in managing workplace risks;
• Coordinate and lead workplace incident investigations, including root cause analysis and the implementation of effective corrective actions;
• Facilitate hazard identification, risk assessment and control processes, supporting teams to proactively identify and manage workplace risks;
• Analyse WHS data, incidents, hazards and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and develop practical recommendations;
• Coordinate WHS training, inductions and competency requirements, ensuring workers and contractors have the appropriate training and qualifications;
• Support WHS consultation and engagement, including working with Health and Safety Representatives and participating in WHS Committee meetings;
• Support workers compensation and injury management processes, including complex claims and return-to-work requirements;
• Ensure Council meets its WHS reporting and regulatory obligations, including the notification of notifiable incidents to SafeWork NSW; and
• Contribute to WHS and wellbeing initiatives that strengthen Council's safety culture and improve health and safety outcomes.

About You

You are an experienced WHS professional who can combine strong technical knowledge with practical judgement, communication skills and a genuine commitment to supporting people.

You Will Bring

• a tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline;
• demonstrated experience in a WHS and/or injury management role, including incident investigations;
• sound knowledge of WHS and workers compensation legislation, standards and best practice;
• the ability to provide practical, risk-aware advice and confidently engage with managers, supervisors and workers;
• well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, influence and build positive relationships across a diverse workforce;
• strong organisational, analytical and reporting skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and turn information and data into practical recommendations;
• experience supporting WHS training, inductions and competency requirements;
• a current Class C driver's licence; and
• a strong commitment to integrity, accountability and creating a positive workplace safety culture.
