About Lee Civil

Lee Civil Pty Ltd is a Queensland pipeline construction specialist based at Yatala. We install, maintain and relocate water and wastewater pipelines for head contractors, councils and utilities across South East Queensland.

Our work includes large-diameter HDPE, MSCL, DICL and GRP pipelines, manholes and shafts, live asset connections, poly welding and work in live road and rail corridors. We operate an Integrated Management System certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

We are currently delivering a major pipeline project on the Gold Coast and growing our team to support it.

The role

The Safety Manager leads work health and safety across Lee Civil, the office, the yard and every site. You will set the standard, support our supervisors and crews in the field, and keep our ISO 45001 system working on the ground, not just on paper.

This is a hands-on role, split between our Yatala office and our project sites. You will report to the Managing Director and lead our HR and Training Coordinator.

What you will do
  • Lead the WHS elements of our Integrated Management System, certified to ISO 45001 and integrated with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

  • Prepare and review project safety management plans, SWMS and site safety documents with project managers, engineers and supervisors

  • Carry out site inspections and audits, and make sure corrective actions are closed out

  • Lead incident reporting and investigation, including notifications to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland where required

  • Act as the company Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator

  • Set and check controls for high-risk work: excavation and trenching, shoring and trench boxes, confined spaces, mobile plant and lifting, live road and rail corridors, and asbestos pipe and contaminated material

  • Manage safety interfaces with head contractors, councils and utilities, including client audits, reporting and site meetings

  • Report safety performance to the Managing Director and drive improvement actions

  • Lead and mentor the HR and Training Coordinator, including inductions, training and competency records

  • Keep safety registers and records current in our digital site system (Prestartr)

  • Support internal and external certification audits

What you will bring
  • Diploma of Work Health and Safety or higher

  • At least five years in a safety role in civil construction, including time in a lead or management role, ideally on pipelines or utilities

  • Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (Qld), the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld) and the relevant Codes of Practice

  • Experience working within an ISO 4501 management system

  • Confidence on site with crews and supervisors, and in front of clients

  • General construction induction card (White Card) and a current driver licence

Desirable:
  • Tertiary qualification in WHS or a related field

  • Lead auditor qualification (ISO 45001 or integrated systems)

  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator training

  • Experience on council or utility contracts in South East Queensland

  • Current first aid certificate

What we offer

Based on skill

  • Company vehicle, phone and laptop

  • Training and professional development offered and encouraged

  • A senior role reporting directly to the Managing Director

  • A growing business with training pathways and a team that backs you

  • Modern plant, digital site systems and an established, certified management system
