Job summary

Carriageworks is seeking a proactive Safety Coordinator to strengthen safety across our diverse operations in Sydney. You will work with the Director, Safety, Risk and Building Services to deliver practical safety initiatives and drive compliance across events, productions and venues.

Key responsibilities include risk assessments, incident investigations, workers compensation administration and contractor management.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a WHS role.
• Experience in film, events, entertainment, arts, construction, property, facilities management or other high‑risk environments.
• Understanding of NSW WHS legislation and Codes of Practice.
• Exposure to incident investigations, workers compensation and risk management practices.
• Experience working with contractors or operational teams is desirable.
• Strong organisational and administrative skills.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist in facilitation of risk assessments across operational, event and project activities.
• Assist with incident, hazard and near miss reporting processes and escalate serious incidents.
• Assist in workers compensation claims administration and injury management processes.
• Provide safety support for concerts, festivals, exhibitions and major events.
• Review contractor SWMS, licences, insurances and competency requirements; conduct audits.
• Coordinate WHS committee meetings and worker consultation mechanisms.
• Support Emergency Control Organisation training and readiness.

We're looking for a Safety Coordinator to help ensure the people who make these experiences possible can work in a safe, supported and compliant environment.

Working closely with the Director, Safety, Risk and Building Services, you'll play a hands-on role in supporting and strengthening safety across our diverse operations. You'll help deliver practical safety initiatives, support risk management and incident investigations, coordinate training and compliance activities, and work alongside leaders, workers and contractors to embed a positive safety culture.

Risk Management

• Assist in the facilitation of risk assessments across operational, event and project activities
• Assist with the identification, assessment and management of critical risks
• Assist in maintaining organisational risk registers and ensure controls remain effective
• Support managers in developing and implementing risk controls
• Conduct workplace inspections, audits and compliance reviews
• Assist with monitoring legislative compliance obligations and communicating updates to relevant stakeholders
• Assist in identifying opportunities to improve organisational safety performance

Incident Management

• Assist with the administration of incident, hazard and near miss reporting processes, escalating serious incidents as required
• Support incident investigations and root cause analysis activities
• Monitor corrective actions and follow up with responsible parties to support close out
• Assist with notifiable incident reporting processes and regulatory correspondence where required

Workers Compensation and Injury Management

• Assist with the administration of workers compensation claims and injury management processes
• Coordinate the collection and submission of required documentation to insurers and stakeholders
• Maintain regular contact with injured workers to support recovery and return to work outcomes
• Monitor Certificates of Capacity and assist with suitable duties planning
• Support the development and implementation of return to work and recovery at work plans
• Assist managers in implementing workplace adjustments and rehabilitation activities
• Maintain accurate records of claims, rehabilitation progress and injury management activities
• Escalate complex claims or recovery concerns to the Director as required

Programming and Productions

• Assist the Director in providing safety support for concerts, festivals, exhibitions, filming, theatre productions and major events
• Support the review of event safety documentation and elevate issues requiring further assessment.
• Participate in event planning meetings and operational readiness activities
• Support event operations and respond to safety issues during events when required

Contractor and Supplier Management

• Review SWMS, licences, insurances and competency requirements
• Conduct contractor audits and inspections
• Support consultation and coordination with multiple duty holders

Consultation and Culture

• Coordinate WHS Committee meetings and consultation processes
• Support Health and Safety Representatives and worker consultation mechanisms
• Promote proactive hazard reporting and worker engagement
• Assist with safety campaigns, awareness activities and continuous improvement programs.
• Coordinate mandatory training records and compliance requirements
• Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks and awareness sessions
• Assist managers in identifying training and competency requirements

Emergency Management

• Support the maintenance and testing of emergency management arrangements
• Assist in the coordination emergency exercises and debriefs
• Assist with business continuity and emergency preparedness activities
• Support Emergency Control Organisation (ECO) training and readiness
