McConnell Dowell is seeking a Safety Advisor for Thompsons Creek Stage 1 - South, a major wastewater infrastructure project for Sydney Water in Western Sydney. You will lead safety on site, collaborating with construction teams and subcontractors to promote safe practices and a positive safety culture.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ safety experience in construction or civil infrastructure.
  • Cert IV in WHS or higher safety qualification.
  • Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, systems and best practice.
  • Confident communication skills with the ability to influence site teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide visible safety leadership and maintain a strong site presence.
  • Support teams to identify, manage and control project risks and hazards.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and incident investigations.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with approved HSMP and CEMP requirements.

About the project

Thompsons Creek Stage 1 - South is a major wastewater infrastructure project being delivered for Sydney Water to support Western Sydney’s rapid growth.

The project includes 3.4 km of new wastewater pipeline, delivered using trenchless micro-TBM technology at depths of up to 12 metres, along with 24 temporary shafts and 23 permanent maintenance holes.

About the role

As Safety Advisor, you’ll play a key role in supporting safe and successful project delivery. With a strong site presence, you’ll work alongside construction teams, subcontractors and project leadership to identify risks, strengthen safety practices and promote a positive safety culture.

This role provides the opportunity to take ownership of safety outcomes on a significant infrastructure project while working within an experienced and supportive project environment.

Key responsibilities
  • Provide visible safety leadership and maintain a strong site presence.
  • Support teams to identify, manage and control project risks and hazards.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits and incident investigations.
  • Monitor subcontractor compliance with approved HSMP and CEMP requirements.
  • Analyse safety data and support reporting, initiatives and continuous improvement.
What will you bring?
