Job summary

Compass Group ESS Defence in Canberra is seeking a proactive Safety Advisor to partner with Defence sites across NSW and ACT, promoting best practice WHS, environmental and food safety outcomes.

You will conduct risk assessments, lead incident investigations, support injury management, and drive continuous safety improvements within a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in WHS is the minimum requirement.
• Diploma or Degree in WHS is highly regarded.
• Strong incident investigation and risk management capabilities are essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert WHS, environmental and food safety advice to operational teams.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop safe work procedures.
• Lead incident investigations and support corrective actions.
• Support injury management and return-to-work processes.
• Conduct site audits, inspections and compliance reviews.
• Ensure compliance with legislative, client and company requirements.
• Coach leaders to strengthen safety capability and drive improvements.

We are looking for a proactive and passionate Safety Advisor to join our Defence business. Based in Canberra, you will partner closely with operational leaders across Defence sites in NSW and the ACT, driving a strong safety culture and providing expert guidance on health, safety, environmental and quality performance.

The Role

As a Safety Advisor, you will play a key role in promoting best practice safety outcomes and supporting our operational teams to maintain safe, compliant and high-performing workplaces.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing expert WHS, environmental and food safety advice to operational teams
• Conducting risk assessments and developing safe work procedures
• Leading incident investigations and supporting effective corrective actions
• Supporting injury management and return-to-work processes
• Conducting site audits, inspections and compliance reviews
• Ensuring compliance with legislative, client and company requirements
• Coaching and influencing leaders to strengthen safety capability
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives across safety performance

About You

We are looking for a safety professional who enjoys building strong stakeholder relationships and influencing positive safety outcomes.

You'll bring:

• Australian Citizenship and ability to obtain a Defence Security Clearance
• Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety as a minimum (Diploma or Degree highly regarded)
• Experience in a Health, Safety, Environment or related role
• Strong incident investigation and risk management capability
• ICAM investigation training and root cause analysis experience (desirable)
• Current unrestricted driver's licence
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience working in site-based or operational environments (highly regarded)
• Food safety experience or qualifications (desirable)
