Job summary

Laing O’Rourke is seeking a Safety Advisor to join our AUKUS team in Australia. You will analyse HSE data, monitor metrics, coach teams on systems, conduct inspections, and drive remedial actions across a major defence infrastructure program.

You will work with a collaborative team on a high-profile project requiring strong safety leadership, regulatory awareness, and Australian Defence Security clearance to NV1 level. Australian citizenship is required.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV OHS or higher literacy in health and safety practices.
• Experience supporting supervision with HSE issue closeout in a workplace.
• Ability to conduct safety inspections and identify hazards in high-risk construction sites.

Responsibilities

• Analyse HSE data and trends to identify performance improvements.
• Monitor key project HSE metrics and provide regular reporting.
• Coach teams on HSE systems and contractual requirements.
• Conduct HSE inspections, audits, pre-starts and toolbox talks.
• Monitor HSE and Rail Safety governance and drive remedial actions.

Laing O’Rourke, with joint venture partner Amentum Australia, will play a central role in supporting Australian Naval Infrastructure (ANI) to develop and deliver the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Construction Yard (NPSCY) project at Osborne, South Australia. We will provide program and construction management services of nuclear related civil infrastructure, site‑wide nuclear licensee development expertise, and nuclear safety leadership.

About You

• Certificate IV OHS and or working towards Graduate Certificate, Diploma OHS, Certificate in Risk management.
• Demonstrated experience in assisting supervision and management with HSE issue / action closeout within the workplace
• Has been effective in managing site‑based hazards and risks and able to plan and carry out safety inspections
• Previous experience working in high-risk construction industry
• Applicants must be Australian citizens and hold or be able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance to NV1 level.
