Job summary

Royal Flying Doctor Service – Broken Hill, NSW, is seeking a General Practitioner with Mental Health Advanced Skills Training (AST) to join a multidisciplinary team. The role blends clinic-based care with outreach and telehealth to serve remote communities, offering clinical autonomy and meaningful population impact.

You will deliver mental health assessments, care planning and interventions, work with psychiatrists and emergency teams, and mentor registrars in a supportive rural setting.

Qualifications

• Six+ years of GP experience with mental health focus preferred.
• Experience in primary care management of complex presentations.
• Commitment to recovery‑oriented, trauma‑informed practice.

Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive mental health assessments and care planning in primary care.
• Manage patients with complex and acute mental health needs.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for integrated rural care.
• Develop shared-care pathways with psychiatrists and telepsychiatry services.
• Provide mentoring to GP Registrars, junior doctors and medical students.
• Contribute to service innovation and community education to reduce stigma.
• Provide care through RFDS clinics, outreach and telehealth.
• Deliver culturally safe and trauma-informed care including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander concepts.
