Job summary

Working In Australia is seeking an experienced Fitter with rope-access qualifications to join its specialist team in Rockhampton, delivering welding, installation, maintenance and repair services across Queensland and New South Wales.

The role involves reading drawings, assembling and aligning mechanical components, and servicing hydraulic and pneumatic systems at heights using rope-access techniques. Travel to project sites and relocation to Rockhampton may be required.

Qualifications

• Certificate III in Engineering‑ Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining) or equivalent.
• Experience in assembly, installation, maintenance and repair of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics and technical specifications.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, workshop machinery and precision measuring equipment.
• Sound fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work to strict tolerances while maintaining high-quality workmanship.
• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Good communication, organisational and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

• Interpret engineering drawings, technical plans and specs to determine installation and maintenance requirements.
• Assemble, fit and align mechanical components to required standards.
• Inspect completed work with precision instruments to ensure accuracy.
• Set up and operate workshop machinery to fabricate, modify and repair parts.
• Cut, shape, drill, grind and machine metal components for maintenance and production.
• Install, maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and pipework.
• Diagnose mechanical faults, perform troubleshooting and implement repairs.
• Carry out preventive maintenance, overhauls and component replacements to minimise downtime.
• Assist with installation, commissioning and relocation of machinery on-site.
• Complete maintenance records and ensure compliance with safety requirements.
