Job summary

Toorak College on the Mornington Peninsula seeks a part-time Risk and Compliance Officer to coordinate risk, compliance and governance across the School. You will build trusted relationships with leaders, staff and regulatory bodies, delivering expert guidance to foster a proactive culture of safety and accountability.

You will lead risk assessments for events, maintain compliance registers, monitor regulatory updates and support policy development.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in risk management, compliance, governance, business, law or related discipline.
• Experience in risk, compliance, governance, assurance or quality roles.
• Experience in Education, Not-For-Profit or similarly regulated environments is highly regarded.

Role and Responsibilities

The Risk and Compliance Officer plays a key role in supporting the effective management of risk, compliance and governance practices across the School. This position is responsible for coordinating and monitoring the School’s risk and compliance frameworks, ensuring policies, procedures, audits and legislative obligations are effectively maintained and, where required, implemented. Working collaboratively with leaders and staff across the School, the Risk and Compliance Officer will build strong and trusted relationships internally and externally, including regulatory bodies and other relevant authorities, providing expert advice and guidance to promote a proactive culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity for a people focussed and experienced compliance professional looking for a part-time position who can lead and influence others to strengthen risk and compliance practices across the School. Working collaboratively and proactively across the School, the successful candidate will draw on their in-depth compliance knowledge and strong influencing skills to build consensus, achieve a united approach and foster a culture of shared responsibility.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Lead the Education Team in reviewing, evaluating and approving risk assessments for all domestic and international camps, excursions and school events, as well as be the main point of contact for external bodies and stakeholders around student and staff safety.
• Support the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams with the continuing implementation and ongoing review of the School's risk management and compliance frameworks.
• Develop, maintain and monitor compliance registers, reporting processes and documentation to ensure regulatory obligations are met.
• Coordinate risk assessments, compliance reviews and internal audits, ensuring identified actions are appropriately recorded, monitored and implemented.
• Monitor legislative, regulatory and sector requirements relevant to the School and provide timely advice and updates to key stakeholders.
• Support the development, review and implementation of School policies, procedures and operational guidelines.
• Prepare risk, compliance and governance reports as required.
• Partner with the Senior Leadership Team and all staff across the School to embed a strong risk-aware culture and promote continuous improvement.
• Support emergency management planning, business continuity processes and associated compliance requirements.
• Assist with compliance obligations relating to child safety, workplace health and safety, privacy and other areas of regulatory responsibility.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation to support transparency, accountability and effective governance.

The successful candidate will be an experienced Risk and Compliance professional who demonstrates:

• A strong understanding of risk management principles, compliance frameworks and governance practices.
• Experience developing, implementing and reviewing policies, procedures and compliance processes.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information, identify risks and provide practical recommendations.
• Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence across all levels and build positive relationships across the School.
• A proactive and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of the broader School community.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Degree qualified or relevant qualifications in risk management, compliance, governance, business, law or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in a risk, compliance, governance, assurance or quality role.
• Experience within an Education, Not-For-Profit or similarly regulated environment will be highly regarded.
• Knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements relevant to schools.
• Commitment to upholding child safety standards and contributing to a culture of wellbeing and inclusion.
