Job summary

IFYS in Queensland is seeking a Residential Youth Worker to support young people in our Residential Care house. Reporting to the Case Manager, you will help deliver day-to-day care, assist with activities, and promote life-skills development in a safe, nurturing environment.

As part of a dedicated team, you will handle admin tasks, complete case notes, and participate in ongoing training. Eligible applicants may have prior experience with vulnerable populations and will meet regulatory

Qualifications

• QLD Working with Children Blue Card or application in progress.
• Current Queensland driver’s license with no restrictions.
• Ability to provide two references from recent employers (current line manager preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, therapeutic environment for young people to grow and learn.
• Support and manage challenging behaviours calmly and consistently.
• Plan activities to meet needs in line with Case Plans.
• Complete daily case notes and admin tasks.
• Transport clients to school, work, appointments, and commitments.

About the opportunity

The IFYS Child Protection Residential Care Programs support children and young people needing a safe, dependable, and nurturing living environment. Reporting to the Case Manager, Residential Youth Workers deliver the day-to-day care to young people in the Residential Care house.

A day in the role of a Residential Youth Worker may include supporting young people to manage challenging behaviours, planning or attending activities and following daily routines to promote life-skills development. Residential Youth Workers complete case notes and admin tasks daily as well as helping to maintain a clean and safe environment.

Candidates with transferrable skills from working with vulnerable people who display challenging behaviours are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for young people to grow and learn
• Support and manage young people’s complex and challenging behaviours in a consistent and calm manner
• Build rapport and remain non-judgmental whilst maintaining professional boundaries
• Plan individual and group activities to meet the young people’s needs and goals in line with Case Plans
• Use daily routines to provide hands on training of life skills such as cooking, budgeting, and personal care
• Timely and accurate completion of administrative duties including petty cash, case notes, and incident reports
• Transport clients to school, work, appointments and other commitments
• A QLD Working with Children Blue Card or have applied for one
• Current Queensland driver's license with no restrictions
• Ability to provide two references from recent employers (including your current line manager)
• Already hold or are enrolled in a Certificate IV or higher in a relevant field prior to commencing work (IFYS can provide advice/more information on this)
• Availability for a variety of different shifts over a fortnightly roster (day/evening/sleepover/weekend)
• As part of our recruitment process, we do a number of history screenings including a Licensed Care Suitability check (LCS2) and a National Crime Check
