Job summary

The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Darlinghurst, NSW invites applications for a Research Coordinator to deliver an Aboriginal-led precision medicine cohort study across NSW. You will manage operational delivery, coordinate recruitment sites, data and sample logistics, and build partnerships with Aboriginal health services and research teams.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate qualification in biological sciences, genetics, health, pathology or related field.
• Experience managing clinical research projects, ideally within a primary healthcare setting.
• Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health inequities, with experience partnering with communities.
• Understanding of Australian primary healthcare landscape and diverse stakeholders.
• Experience managing budgets, project plans, reporting, service contracts or research agreements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and research systems such as REDCap; committed to Good Clinical Practice accreditation.
• Willing to travel within NSW and interstate; genomics, precision medicine or Indigenous Data Sovereignty knowledge desirable.

About you

You are an experienced research coordinator who understands the importance of trust, respect and genuine collaboration in research. You bring a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health inequities, and are confident building productive partnerships with communities, health services, researchers and service providers, while navigating complex ethical, governance and contractual requirements. Organised and solutions-focused with a strong understanding of the primary health care landscape in Australia, you can keep a large research project moving while ensuring people, relationships and cultural considerations remain at the centre of your work.

This is an Aboriginal Targeted position under Government Sector Employment Rule 26. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates will be preferentially assessed and are strongly encouraged to apply.

The role

We are seeking a Research Coordinator to manage the operational and logistical delivery of a large Aboriginal-led precision medicine cohort study across NSW. Co-designed with Aboriginal communities and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, the study will commence participant recruitment in 2027. You will coordinate the establishment and ongoing support of recruitment sites, manage sample and data logistics, and develop productive relationships with service partners. Working closely with the Program Manager, Indigenous Genomics and Cardiovascular Health, you will collaborate with Aboriginal health organisations, research teams, investigators and the NSW ALIGN Indigenous Governance Committee to support the ethical and effective delivery of the study.

• Coordinating the establishment, preparation, monitoring and ongoing support of research recruitment sites
• Developing detailed project plans and monitoring timelines, milestones, deliverables, resources and budgets
• Creating clear study materials, research protocols, standard operating procedures and training resources
• Managing service provider relationships, contracts and research agreements to support effective study delivery
• Coordinating high-quality project, ethics, financial and research management reportingIdentifying and managing project risks, barriers, contractual obligations and governance requirements
• Supporting the practical application of Indigenous Data Sovereignty principles in the management of research data and samples

Does this sound like you?

• An undergraduate qualification in biological sciences, genetics, health, pathology or a related field
• Demonstrated experience managing clinical research projects, ideally within a primary healthcare setting
• Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, the impacts of colonisation and health inequities, with experience working in partnership with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people, communities and health services considered highly desirable
• An understanding of the Australian primary healthcare landscape and can work effectively with diverse health and community stakeholders
• Experience managing budgets, project plans, reporting requirements, service contracts or research agreements
• Ability to communicate with respect and build strong, productive partnerships across geographically diverse teams
• Confident using Microsoft Office and research systems such as REDCap, and hold, or will commit to achieving, Good Clinical Practice accreditation
• Willing to travel within NSW and interstate as required, with an understanding of genomics, precision medicine or Indigenous Data Sovereignty considered highly desirable
