Job summary

The University of Newcastle invites applications for a part-time Research Assistant to support the Deadly Dreaming project, coordinating activities with Elders, researchers and community partners at Hunter Medical Research Institute. You will assist with participant engagement, yarning sessions, research administration and reporting, while upholding culturally safe practices and strong community relationships.

This fixed-term 6-month role offers 3 days per week and potential extension.

We are seeking a motivated and organised Research Assistant to support the Deadly Dreaming research team. Working closely with researchers, Elders, community members and research partners, you will play an important role in coordinating project activities, supporting participant engagement, and contributing to the delivery of community-centred research.

In This Role You Will

• Provide administrative and operational support to the Deadly Dreaming research project.
• Coordinate meetings, yarning sessions and community engagement activities with Elders, community members and research partners.
• Support participant engagement and act as a key point of contact throughout the project.
• Assist with research administration, records management, and project reporting.
• Organise logistics and resources for community activities, including occasional travel for visits On Country.
• Build strong relationships with researchers, Elders and communities while supporting culturally safe research practices.

This is a part-time (3 days), 6-month fixed-term position with the possibility of extension, located at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (Awabakal and Worimi land).

• Support the facilitation of community engagement and yarning-based reflection under guidance of Elders, Aboriginal CIs, and community governance
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an inter-disciplinary way of working, while privileging Indigenous ways of knowing and being
• Excellent planning and organisational skill, including the ability to manage a range of tasks with conflicting priorities, whilst ensuring accurate results
